The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • T1 2.5 TDi rear hatch strut replace / part numbers

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been done to death, but clearly my forum Seach skills must be letting me down.

I need to replace both the gas Spring struts for the rear hatch and the glass lift struts on my R5 TDi.

Plenty of parts available on eBay but it seems that the 2.5 tdi isn't a model that made it much past Europe or AU, some sites suggest that the struts change depending on VINs.??

I'm interested to know if anyone has done this on their AU delivered R5? And if so, do you know any local suppliers in Australia and if you happen to know the part numbers.

I have managed to find the following:
    7L6 827 550 N main hatch
    7L6 845 587 A rear glass

Thanks in advance for your help forum team.

You won't get any local suppliers besides Volkswagen on something like this.

    What year model is it?

I'd have thought so too, with regards to the part numbers.

I can't imagine them being any different based on what engine is in it.

I'd take a punt on a set from Ebay. Last time I bought a set of hatch struts for a customer from VW, for her Beetle, they were over $100ea.

          Thanks guys,

I agree. I think eBay is the go.
For a bit of fun, I'll get a quote from VW and post on the forum as a reference.

            Hi All,

Well comparo done (and hatch struts done too)

I went to the VW dealer (23/08/16) and for a set of 4 struts (2 for the main tailgate and 2 for the rear glass hatch) VW were only $17 more expensive that the cheapest price I could find on eBay shipped to Victoria for the LOT - that is pretty darn good.

Naturally I bought them, installed them and have a happy wife

Door struts were $155 ex /ea
            Glass struts were $15 ex/ea

But in stark comparison - I needed a transfer case stepper motor, common Reg problem, $1550 ex from VW, $487 eBay delivered to my door.

It pays to ask the dealer at least, but on the stepper motor, you can probably guess which way I went
