Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2010 Touareg V6 3.0 TDI Boost pressure Regulation P0299 - Control Range not reached

    Hello All,
Was driving on a long route and the solid engine light came on. Checked with my basic code reader got a code

P0401 – 000- Insufficient Flow – Intermittent on the EGR system.
Cleared the code and the code did not return

Several weeks later on another long drive this time a flashing engine light came on and asked to take it to the garage.
Stopped at the next exit. Turned the engine off, few minutes later turned it on and the light was gone.
Anyways, arrived home without any further issue and have been driving the car since without any more issues and obviously no engine light.

Just to be on the safe side, took the car to the mechanic last week and he read the old code from when I was on that trip. It had the code..

    000665 – Boost Pressure Regulation
    P0299 – 000 – Control Range not reached - Intermittent

The mechanic said the Turbo will need replacing which is a big job and will cost around 3,500 - 4,000.

Considering it is an old car I don’t think it is worth spending that much on the car but would like to know if there are any other options before deciding what to do.

I read the following thread where another user on the forum had a similar issue.
2008 Tiguan turbo actuator replacement | VW TDI forum, Audi, Porsche, and Chevy Cruze Diesel forum
Not sure whether the 3.0 TDI engines can have the same issue but worth exploring?

The car is running fine without any engine light or strange noises but I have noticed the consumption has gone up very slightly.
On long drives it would be around 9L/100Km but now it is around 11L/100Km.
I’m reluctant to take it on long drives in case it has those issues again.

Would like to know your option and how to go about getting it resolved.
    Thanks in advance.

Touch wood I have not seen this issue again. It was 40C that day perhaps it had to do something with it.
