Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan Servicing

    Hi folks,
Recently my daughter bought a 2008 2.0 TDI Tiguan. She is very happy with the vehicle but is very unimpressed with VW dealerships for servicing both for quality and price .....
We are looking for an honest, reliable mechanic in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs in the region Surrey Hills to Ringwood who is familiar with these vehicles who can be trusted to do a good job for a fair price.
Someone who is a club member and enthusiast as well as mechanic would be preferred.
Are the members please able to suggest some possibilities?

    Best Regards
    Bill

As mentioned in the Newbies corner, have a look in the Recommended Repairers and Parts Suppliers forum area.

This is a very common question that comes up regularly.

Also best off doing a search before posting up a question and then only post a new thread if you can't already find a topic on the subject

I booked mine in at VW Camberwell for it's 15k service, it's the same place I purchased it from. They told me the price was like $440 under capped price service. It's funny because I also have a 1 year old Audi A4 which I recently did a 15k service at an Audi dealer for only $420!

I'm absolutely surrounded by mechanics, Hallam (Vic). Dealers are not even considered, anymore. **** them.

Last service, the mrs. German built Ford Fiesta. The dealer wanted ~$450, while a German specialist (serious setup!) wanted ~$320, and another guy we've used heaps (ex VW mechanic) wanted $220. Log book service/stamp, own business, real grease-monkey. Complete opposite of a salesperson.

He's boringly straight. Picked-up a ton of things he wouldn't have known if he wasn't doing the work, and knows/mentions all the stuff special the car requires to do right. I'm happy doing stuff myself, and that's fine with him, too. He just works, charges fairly, goes home. And we reward him with all our family/business cars.
