New Mercedes GLC220D is now available, bit more expensive, but it looks like a real contender in the sub $65K SUV Euro class. I'd take it any day over a ~$45K 130TDI Tiguanthough my pick would be the GLC250CGI

For what its worth, I test drove the X1 and X3 recently and the interiors are real let downs. A $70K car with plastics around the dash and console that would not be out of place in a sub $20K Hyundai ...... lovely to drive, but the interior would bug me everytime I got in the car

Mercedes-Benz is 2nd to none when it comes to build quality and technology advances. But a GLC220d with metallic paint alone comes to $73k including on-roads without adding bits and pieces from the wishlist. Tiguan 130TDI without options was $39,990 drive-away. I paid $45k for mine which came with R-Line, Sunroof and metallic paint. Instead of GLC, I would take a Tiguan TDI and a Golf TSI Highline as a package than the MB.

        Thanks all, interesting discussion.

Maybe now there's a "fix" they can re-consider!
