132TSI and 155TSI Tig performance after Stage 1

Hi all,
I'm new here, and have decided to buy myself a Tig for christmas

I'm tossing up between a 2012> 132 and 155TSI, and intend to do the APR Stage 1 ecu upgrade immediately after purchase.
Can anyone tell me the difference in performance between the two once the the upgrade is done?
I can't find any figures that compare the two.

I don't believe there is a difference after tuning as both are essentially the same motor in a different state of tune. Best to double check with your tuner but I believe you'll end up at the same power output after a stage 1 tune.

There's a few differences between the 132/155TSI - the seats (if you go cloth) and possibly the stereo/head unit. Also I'm not sure when they started putting the touchscreen units in with reverse cameras as standard items and model options changed between model years.

Big ticket items to change later are wheels, sunroof and bi-xenon headlights. If you want any of these options you're best to hunt around for the right car.

The 132TSI was fitted with some fairly average looking wheels for a couple of years...

Yeah that was what I had pieced together from other peoples posts, may aswell save the money on the 155 and spent it on the tune. But yes I'll check with my local tuner.

Would quite like the sunroof , and happy to add aftermarket wheels and xenons down the track, but if I find one with the newyork 18's I'd be happy with them.

Well looks like you're doing your research up front which is always a good idea. The New Yorks are a nice looking wheel but only came standard on the 155...

Also bi-xenons are very expensive to retrofit legally. You'll need headlights, washers and self levellers plus labour if you don't DIY. Ball-park $4-5k hence why if it was a deal breaker you'd find a car that has them fitted.

White looks great with the R-line kit which has body coloured lower trims. Otherwise limestone grey tends to hide the grey plastics better - less of a 2 tone effect. However if the right car/options comes up with good service history you may need to keep a little open on colour.

I asked the same question when I was first looking, and there is no performance difference. Same engine, same turbo.

I tried to order a 132 with the R-Line pack on it (Which would have been perfect for me) and I dont really care about leather, on some days i prefer cloth, but the 155 is nicely appointed.. Im not sure that DCC does that much (maybe I'm not sensitive enough)

I was recommending a Tig package for someone else, I would say 132 and get the Stage 1 ECU and DSG done from APR.
Echo Tigger's comments above about wheels/headlights... Annoyingly I couldnt option Xenon's on my 155R and now im looking at the genuine R-Line install option from JKU - $3k.
I've looked at Savannah's but I'm only 10% of the way into looking at the rims.. i want to find something that looks genuine, is as wide as possible (to make use of the R-line guards) and doesnt scrub... so perhaps if you want to buy a set of Mallory's i might have some for sale

Completely agree about the white, the r line pack is a great improvement.

Great to hear it's the same engine, opens up a lot more cars to choose from.

Yeah I'm also indifferent about leather, it looks nice new, but shows its age and is bloody hot in the Perth heat.

I forget about the washers... my 3 series had xenon and didn't have washers, I suppose it's fair enough we have to have them.

Looks like the only option I really am keen on is the sunroof, xenons would be nice but non a deal breaker.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot in the used market over in WA at the moment.

Depending on your budget, there's this one (no roof): VW Tiguan 155TSI 7 speed DSG

If you're serious about getting a car there's also the option of purchasing interstate. If you're not 100% comfortable doing this you could also use a broker to find you a vehicle/do all inspections and arrange interstate transport. I know there 's people that offer this type of service in Adelaide and usually charge a fixed fee.

One other thing to keep in mind that there was a 132TSI "Pacific" model that came out after the shape change in 2012/2013 for about 12 months. This was shipped with a 6 speed conventional auto (as opposed to the 7 speed DSG) as there was a world-wide shortage of the 7 speed DSG at the time. If you're looking to tune the car and have decent performance then you'll probably want to get the DSG. The 155TSI always had the DSG. Confusing thing was that they still kept the "Pacific" designation even after the 7 speed DSG came back in somewhere in 2013/2014. So just be sure of what you're getting.

I wouldn't trust 100% what a car is listed as on carsales either. It's not uncommon to see these listed incorrectly as a lot of used car sales won't really know what they're looking at (I've had this experience first-hand).

Hopefully this is helpful info - best to be aware of all the model/gearbox changes. If you wanted to be 100% certain of what the car was fitted with, get the VIN of the vehicle you're looking at and ask VW service dept to look up what gearbox/options it was fitted with.

Yeah I'm looking aus wide, I have bought a couple of cars from over east before without any dramas.
Definitely want the DSG, a must to get the most out of a stage 1 tune I'd think.

Quick update, got my tig last week. Ended up with a 2012 Grey 155TSI DSG with Alcatara interior, Nav and 18's. 45000'ks, $23K

Really pleased so far, going to chat to my local APR dealer this week

I personally have found the 155 sufficient, though an extra ~35-40kW never hurts

If you're going to do it make sure you book in now so you can get the APR 10% off sale Xmas special - ends 24th Dec (or when your local dealer closes...)

You might consider the DSG upgrade too.
That also modifies the torque tags in the software therein releasing what feels like more power from your Stage 1 whilst sharpening up the changes.
Unless you have a few sheep missing from the top paddock you would not need more power than the Stage 1 with DSG provides. FFS it is a Tiguan and not a Golf R.
Bit disappointed that Sport even with the DSG upgrade still is overly aggressive and could change up earlier when going easy on the loud pedal.
