  • 155rline Tiguan performance mods

    Hi guys,

So last week I sold my beloved golf R32 to move onto the new Golf 7 mk7.. Well that was the plan then due to an expanding family a Tiguan was required.

So we take delivery of our 155 Rline on the 25th of July

Im after doing some mods but have some questions first.
I want to do the APR stage 2 kit but I'm not sure if the down pipe fits the 2015 and also want to lower it about 30-40mm.
Does that affect the active chassis control?

Has anyone modded a 2015 155, if so what have they done and what sort of power are you getting?
    Like
    Cold air intake
    Down pipe
    Cat back exhaust
    Full exhaust
    ECU flash
    Lowered Suspension
    Bi Xenon Headlights
    Folding mirrors

Went down the stage 2 + thingie with full suspension, gearbox software, steering arms - HR sways, HPA shox and more with my GTI.
We have now replaced it with the R-Line Tig.
It is my wife's car and she and I love it.
I almost enjoy occasionally driving her R Line more than my Audi SQ5!
You stand a good chance of screwing up a surprisingly good deign if you go down that list, almost needlessly.
The Tig handles better than the modded GTi and I'd advise to leave you to leave it alone.
There are some on this forum that seem to want to do nothing more than fiddle with otherwise good engineering - they exist on all the forums and its horses for courses.
We have done APR Stage 1 which is more than enough - downpipes, exhaust etc is not Tig style of motoring and you never will get a worthwhile return on investment as it is already extremely well sorted.
Stage 1 APR gives quite sufficient and 90+ percent of what the rest of the noisy and expensive other bits will get you.
Just APR 1 and leave it alone - be patient and you will soon see why.

I'm glad you talk about it almost being as good as your SQ5, I was going to get one but at the end of the day couldn't justify the extra for my girlfriend, who really doesn't mind what she drives.

Are you happy with the stage 1 over stock?

      Appreciate your input

Here is my 2 cents. If you are missing your R32 and really need to tap in to the full potential of Tig go for K04 upgrade. You may say I am biased because that what I have but if you could drive one with 365 Hp with ~ 500 Nm torque you will be pleasantly surprised. Almost everything in that Tig ready for that sort of power except suspension setup. So lowering spring or some high quality coilovers or a cupkit will sort that out.

my approach to mods is drivability and lap times (not relevant to tigs unless you track it).

my tig is all stock but i find it sufficient for day to day traffic. but once there an open space, to accelerate quickly up.to.the posted limits can feel.sluggish (>1500kg is not light).

i actually drove my tiguan on a race track at lakeside raceway first week i got it, it felt very good for a SUV and from then i left it stock.

but if i do go with modding it, improvements could.be made on braking (mainly higher temp fluid), better tyres (had touring tyres bridgestone sport dueler in 235 50 1, stg 1 tune and rear sway bar.

SQ5 is a different concept than Tig - it's about luxury sports and being totally competent at everything; torque galore and excellent performance with little overt manifestation. Much higher quality than the Tig, more room and heavier footprint.
After all the SQ5 is more than double the cost of the R-Line Tig so it naturally brings expectations which it delivers on.

The Tig is smaller with Golf roots - but when parked next to the Audi it appears to tower over it as it is so much taller - hence the higher fuel consumption.
It does not manifest any sporting roots but the suspension set up on the R-Line is extremely good and it makes for a more agile platform that feels and of course is, smaller than the SQ5.
Stage 1 is quite adequate and remains in character with the rest of the Tig platform.
Nice balance between power, acceleration, handing and braking.
If you were to try and graph bang for the buck and look for the sweet spot APR Stage 1 on the R-Line is about right - adding even more power, screwing around with suspension and handling, bigger brakes are unnecessary additions where the costs outweigh the benefits.

Just curious, but does the R-Line have any different suspension components to the rest of the range, or for that matter, earlier models?

I thought my car (base 2010 model) had a little more body roll & front-to-back see-sawing with the stock setup than with the mild lowering i currently run with Eibach springs. Much prefer the flatter cornering/accelerating/braking. Still on original stock shocks & getting good tyre wear as well.

155 R Line has the electronic adaptive chassis control.

Is it a problem if I lower it? Say 35mm

I'm not sure on this one though I think you have to be a bit more careful. Suggest having a look at what the Golf/Scirocco guys do when they have ACC. I believe there are coilover systems which are compatible with ACC, however not sure if there is anything for the Tig.

                      Thanks Tigger73,

A mate has the KW coilovers in his Golf R with the ACC but I'd be looking at a minimum of $2500 which I don't really want to spend. I just want to get rid of a little body roll, also they look good a little lower

Yeah I think the dampers are special for the ACC. Not sure if you can just replace springs to get it sitting a bit lower.... I guess there's one way to find out

Regards the body roll, you can get rid of most of the side to side movement by installing a heavier duty rear sway bar. If you're mad keen then you can get the front sway bar as well but it's a big job to put it in. Rear bar is DIY bolt-on bolt-off in the driveway but front sway bar needs to be done on a hoist in a workshop.

If you don't like the nodding when accelerating/braking then an Anti-Lift Kit (ALK) can sort this out. Whiteline do a version for the Tig and I think there's one or two others on the market also.

Awesome news, I'm happy to get both front and rear. I think I'll do the anti lift kit also.
Yeah I've been watching videos and Googling and can't seem to find anything.
I think I'll just get the springs and just find out [emoji53]

I see little point doing this other than looks - try and drive one in sport setting in an aggressive manner and see if it really needs any 'sorting'.

Lowering would only be for a look aspect..

Everyone seems to say the same thing about sway bars, so I ordered front and rear last night. If no1 has done a build thread on installing them I'll do that also
