I have spent a couple of years thinking of this, and thanks to this forum for helping me to decide. So today I bite the bullet, and will post thoughts.

Been on the lookout for a tune but with our Australian dollar being low, prices have gone up.

If VW wrote over your tune, it can be restored. Personally I would look for alternate servicing anyway. It does happens but the older the car gets the less likely it is to be a worry.

Any issues with your ecu getting wiped off when getting your car serviced?

No issues with it being wiped over - i actually get my car serviced at my local Audi dealer as they are quite good whereas my local VW is both useless and arrogant/rude - i will never give their service dept another dollar.
I tell Audi straight up that the car is modified and to please not attempt any ECU updates.

Hehe, sorry still trying to get used to how the forum works.
I guess we just have to be upfront with the tune as a friend of mine recently had his car serviced by a vw dealership and had reverted back to stock after denying having a remap.

So got the tune done and how impressive! I have only tried the 95 program, but it has transformed the engine.
My feedback:
- Turbo lag almost non-existent now. I had become so used to turbo lag but now that it has gone, I can feel the difference. Taking-off I hit the next car that bit earlier.
- Much more power, everywhere.
- Power delivered much earlier. Yes, the torque curve down has moved lower down the rev range. If anything, has made dotting around city streets a fraction more difficult. On a light throttle I'm used to waiting a couple of seconds before hitting 50, but now I look down and I'm nudging 65!
- I live inner-city so haven't had much of a chance to rev, but clearly the top-end power has increased too
- Car just feels like it is breathing better
- No noticeable difference with NVH, maybe a bit quieter as I'm not revving like I was
- Hard to believe this is a 2.0l engine, still
- Can't imagine why would switch back to stock, but do have that option along with 98
Can anyone comment on difference between 95 and 98? Is it noticeable?
By the way I paid 'retail' price, so just under $1,500.

I used the 95 program for a week when visiting remote(ish) South Oz a few years ago & noticed no difference compared to 98 program. I do prefer using 98 octane & only did so due to the general unavailability of 98 in most places over there. I also tried the 'Valet Mode' once - 0 to 80kph in about 20 seconds going down a hill!Current: MY18 TRANSPORTER CrewVan, Indium Grey

Good to hear. The only thing you'll be thinking as you drive your car now is why didn't I do this sooner?
Enjoy!

Not much point in paying $1500 for a 95 tune IMHO.
I asked for just the 98 tune only and it makes our RLine Tiguan a pleasant drive under almost all conditions.
Still believe the greatest improvement (based on two GTis in the past) is the gearbox tune.
Haven'y bothered this time yet as it is so darn expensive - invested the same money on a couple of Rigid industries light bars to improve the anaemic high beam and added a tow bar.
