New Car Warranty and a APR Tune

Had a bit of a search and couldn't find anything directly relating to the implications of having a APR Tune and intake fitted and if it would effecting the new car warranty. Looking at having it done to a MY15 132Tsi Tiguan.

I thought the Tiggy's require a complete ECU removal and replace (ie bench tune as opposed to OBD Port remap) to remap/tune. As such, I thought it's highly detectable then by the dealers, hence I think they'd walk away from any warranty claim on the engine/drivetrain.

Your warranty on all drivetrain related issues would be void if VW determines that the ECU tune caused or contributed to a failure that required work to performed under warranty. And even then it could be hard for them to apportion fault 100%

It is not a blanket warranty void scenario no matter what VW would have you believe. If they tried that on me I'd have them in court before they could blink ......

However, if your warranty being free of challenges is important to you, then you may want to stay clear of all tunes until the warranty runs out.

Thanks for the replys, that's what I thought may be the case. Would rather not give them any reason to knock me back if there was a need for warranty work as I hear they can be troublesome at the best of times to get work done. Will just have to wait 3 years, it's the missus car anyways so I'm sure she won't mind.

No bench tune required any longer, its a simple port flash these days.

Yes, it depends what tool is used, pretty much everything incl. all 2014 VAG cars is done over the OBD port.

At least I can do all Tiguans without opening the ECU.

Does this mean it can easily be reversed if say something needed to be repaired under warranty leaving VW none the wiser that it had been tuned? Then put tune back in once repairs have been done? What's the going price on a APR tune? Or what's the best tune to go.
