    TSI Technology
TSI is now the engine designation given to all of Volkswagen’s twin-charged or single-charger
petrol engines with direct petrol injection. TSI does not refer to a ‘Twincharger’ engine only.
The basic features common to all TSI engines are the downsizing concept (smaller engine
capacities), direct injection and turbo charging. This innovative engineering has brought forth
high-tech engines with excellent torque and power output combined with low fuel consumptionand emissions.

so 125TFSI and 147TFSI go from 0-100 in the same time and have the same torque?? Why bother with a more powerful engine then??

Interesting that the TDI is ~$2k more expensive that the 2.0 TSI - I would have been expecting price parity with this level of tech. I wonder if VW is gouging on diesel options?

Doesn't matter whether they are or not.....it has always been this way. Diesel engines just 'cost' more......why? who knows?

And with the total loss of price parity between petrol and diesel these days......then a small diesel just doesn't make economic sense over a similar sized petrol.

TDI is $2,000 more expensive to buy
TDI is typically more expensive to service
TDI has a fuel saving of about $1 per 100ks......so you have to drive 2,000,000 km just to get your money back on the investment in diesel. Less if the 2.0 TSI needs premium....but not that much less!!

        Too rich for me.......

....I'd be looking at the petrol model.

        ...and I'm a diesel fan!!

          Uh ... OK..

Never understood the mindset of "yargh it'll take you foo years to recoup the increased costs" as an argument against diesel. Taking that to it's logical conclusion, you wouldn't buy a car at all, you'd just get around on your treadly. Or buy a ten year old Corolla and run it on LPG.

Mate, how did you calculate "your money back on investment"?
I disagree with $1.00/100km difference but anyway.

            $1 .... 100km
            $10 .....1,000km
            $100 ....10,000km
            $1000 ...100,000km

So, if you bought Passat with diesel engine rather than petrol engine the difference will be something like $3.00-$4.00 every 100km.
Than you just swap "1" for "3" in calculation above and your $2000 investment in diesel will come back to you very soon.

And with the fuel prices’ going up the diesel engine makes more sense than petrol.

Standard 6 speed Tiptronic (automatic) only. No DSG in any Tiguan anywhere in the world at this stage.

FWD will be available in 1.4TSI only from early 2009 in the UK and South Africa. No idea if it is coming to Australia.

147TSI available in manual in the UK and South Africa in RHD, so why not here .......

There is an R line Tiguan coming to world markets from 2009 as well..... no idea on engine specs yet though..

Ben, is the Aisin similar to the gearbox used in Golf MKV2.0 FSI?
I didn't mind that, very smooth. Although I prefer the manual feel of the DSG...
