On the cold mornings recently, as I turned on and cranked my diesel Tig, it loudly beeped 2 or three long tones. Not subtle modulated tones. From the instrument cluster I think. The car cranked a little slowly, I'm thinking it maybe a low battery voltage warning, but I could see no lights or messages on the instrument cluster. And on the second or third cold morning I was looking closely. Anyone know what it is?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Loud beeping on cold start

I've had a single loud 'bing' on a few occasions when I've started up & it's been less than 4 degrees C, I think it's a warning that it may be frosty or icey out. Not sure if this is the same as your noise? Same as a low fuel warning sound.Current: MY18 TRANSPORTER CrewVan, Indium Grey
Previous: MY10 Tiguan 2.0TSI, Silver Leaf, APR StgII tune + many mod's

Thanks, this is not 'bings' or the other modulated tones normally produced. Loud beeps about 2 sec long each. Like a truck reversing. I thought it was my cheap Chinese dash-cam, but I unplugged it. Sound echoes, so its hard to trace the source except from the instrument cluster area. 5 degrees out, car was slow cranking, I thought maybe it was low battery warning or perhaps diesel-too-cold-to-fire.Last edited by Sanman; 31-07-2014, 10:56 PM.TDI tiguan in the drive. Looks to be battery. Tested out as 2/3 capacity, 12.6v charged - "bad",
The beeping is some random system going nuts based on very low voltage during cranking.
RACV sells batteries for $230 for 600CCA. Apparently there is a registration process for the new battery, as VWs adjusts down charge rate based upon condition.TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs

For the record, a good replacement battery for the Tiguan:
Century DIN65LH, 720CCA 24months wty $186 at Bursons, $159 if you have a cash account, ask for a discount
Its larger than the original, but fits in the tray (which is sized for a larger battery)
Apparently there's some reset that should be done when the battery is replaced, perhaps the charge rate is set to the CCATDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs

Probably same as what I ended up with - was under warranty and dealer had no stock of genuine one so Roadside Assist contractor tracked down and installed Century one. Only other drama is that my airbag module died at the same time, so had to take it in to dealer once mobile to get it replaced (also covered under warranty luckily)....2011 147TSi 7spd DSG Reflex Silver, 18" New York Alloys, Leather with MDI, ECB Nudge Bar, Viezu Tune (Work in Progress), Eibach ProKit Springs, SuperPro Poly ALK & Rear Trailing Arm Bushes, H&R 26mm Rear ASB and Whiteline HD Adjustable End-Links, VAR Design 3" Downpipe, Sprint Booster, Auto-Polar FIS+ Advanced Module, GTI Sports Pedals, Flappy Paddle Strg Wheel, LED fogs as DRL, chrome blingy bits
