Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan fuel line rattling

Last few weeks I had a big headache with my Tig because of very annoying rattling noise coming from driver side door. It seamed to be getting progressively louder and worst, mostly arround 2200 RPM to 2600 RPM just when gear changes happening on sports mode. Rattling sound is like very high frequency vibrating noise which last for few seconds untill I stay in that RPM band. I had very hard time figuring out where it is coming from because it looked like coming from every where , from driver side door , side pillar, driver side pasenger door, from dash, even from roof. Lol.

Also I could reproduced similer kind of rattle but with low frequency vibration, when car is idling and increase engine speed up around 1100 RPM. So I thought both rattles should somehow connected with each other and asked my wife to keep the engine on 1100 RPM and put my ear everywhere possibe to find the exact position of the source. Then finally I found it! It was coming from the floor just behind the driver seat. After that it was quite easy since I know the approximate location of the rattle and goole search of "VW rattling under floor" pinpointed the problem as it is infamous fuel line rattle.

Solution.. take the underbody plastic panel out and press some softform through the elliptical hole to keep fuel line from vibrating. Viola! Now no more nasty rattles and I can enjoy sports mode agin

    some pics ..

    Under body plastic cover removed

Fuel lines go through this channel caused the rattle

Elliptical hole used to pressed soft foam in.
