Good day all
After months of surfing the net and comparing VCDS auto scans kindly sent to me from Tiguan owners from here in Australia and around the world. I have at last got this function up and going in my 2012 Tiguan.
You will need 3 things
Firstly
A Genuine Ross Tech VCDS cable to code/ recode the #19 CAN Gateway module, the #17 instrument panel module, the #61 battery regulator module and any other module that may need recoding after the replacement of the CAN Gateway. A cracked cable using out dated software is a recipe for a disaster as other modules coding may be modified without you knowing.
Secondly an instrument panel that supports this function. I have attached a copy of my instrument details for your perusal. Essentially all face lifted Tiguan's from late 2011 should support this.

It is important your instrument panel matches or exceeds the values highlighted in bold. ie 873 A B C etc
Alternatively you can check if your instrument panel supports it by going into module17>adaption> and look for a function in the dropdown menu called "Pause Recommendation" By default this should be set to active if not try it and if it works then proceed to the next stage.
I have discovered there is a "highline" version of the CAN gateway that contains the software to drive the "Driver Alert System"
I have listed below a number of CAN Gateways that appear to have software (SW) versions that support DAS.
Prako from his research on ETKA has kindly identified these gateways have at least 2 model versions, one that supports DAS have a model number (PR-EM1) and those that don't have a model number of PR-EM0

There may be others but these above have been confirmed by their owners. It is advisable to check beforehand as those vehicles fitted with Xenon's or Keyless entry may have the highline Gateway already . To check go into module 19>adaption> drop down menu Channel 5 DAS active. Change the value from 0 to 1. If there is no change in the MFD then you will have to upgrade your CAN Gateway module to a highline PR-EM1 version. I got mine from Speed Auto spares but he appears to have run out of stock so here are links to other sellers on Aliexpress

To change the module
Firstly do a full autoscan of your existing setup and have it handy as you will have to recode the CAN Gateway and relist all your installed modules. You will also have to recode you #61 (Battery Regulator) and #4F (Cent Elec module) if you have Bluemotion & a sunroof fitted. Module 61 and 4F are virtual modules and are part of the CAN Gateway and share the same serial number and software versions see below where I have listed my #19 & #61 modules. These are the only two modules that Iknow of but there may be others.

In RHD cars the Gateway module is located behind the glove box. I do not know off hand where it is located in LHD models but I think it is close to the steering column.
To remove the glove box unclip the dash board panel next to the door. Open the glove box and remove the three torx screws at the top and the glove box lamp.Close the glove box and remove the two bottom torx screws and gently pull the glove box unit forward and then rest it on the passenger floor after disconnecting the glove box light. Be careful in not pulling out the AC pipe that cools the glove box.
Looking straight ahead you will see a black plastic module the size of a cigarette box mounted on a metal frame with a distinct red 24 pin plug going in to it. This is the CAN Gateway! Unclip the red plug exchange out the modules and re assemble in the reverse order as described above.
Coding
This looks complex and is pretty daunting when you see every module listed red with errors when you fire up VCDS after doing the CAN Gateway exchange but ignore this.
Go straight to module 19 and recode it with your saved value from your auto scan you would have done prior to removal of the old CAN Gateway (in my case the value was 356003) VCDS will then ask you if you want to use the default work shop values of 12345 123 12345 or the existing ones saved in the gateway or choose the personalised saved values that you can enter when VCDS is first installed on your laptop. I chose to use my personalised values which I set to my Tiguan's factory WSC values of 01357 011 00200 before I started the retrofit. I did this to maintain originality with the other existing modules ie the dealer will never know I fitted this after the car left the factory!
Secondly go into the installation list and tick all the modules you had listed as installed prior to the changeover and save. Miraculously you will see most if not all your errors disappear!
In my case I had to recode the #61 module the battery regulator, it is part of the CAN Gateway which was no issue as I already saved the old coding beforehand.
I then checked my MFD and now have an additional menu called ASSISTANTS with a sub menu allowing me to switch DAS on and off!

Next job the ABS controller to activate indirect TPMS!
