How about VW dealership. They should have Tiguan intercooler hoses I believe. You could ask for face lifted MY12 Tiguan intercooler piping from them as these go over the intercooler ends and no need to cut anything.

When I installed the S3 one I did tight down the clamps very very hard because original piping is bit loose for S3 intercooler ends.

I actually need the inner core of the piping to be at least 65mm, so it can go over the ends of the tank, oem will not fit. Way too small.

S3 ends are only 53 mm and Tiguan MY12+ intercooler ends are 58 mm size.
I am not sure APR IC but I think it is around 58mm too.

Have contacted Wagner and they might be able to help me. This intercooler is a giant and noise to match. I guess I'm ready for KO4!

Only K04???? With this monster intercooler you could go BT

I think the end size of the intercooler gives you an idea of the designed air flow....

The other option you have on the hoses is to get some 65 to 58/53(?) reducers and join the stock hose to the reducer at the intercooler. This would work but maybe not look the prettiest (hose clamp city). Also more joins = more possible boost leaks so you'd want to try and keep joins to a minimum if you can.

At the moment it does look like clamp city. I'm running stock hoses with forge ends. Looks very messy but it does the job. But no sprint booster or they will fly off. Already happened a couple of times. Limp mode all the way home.

Dyno testing and further investigation has shown the stock Amarok intercooler will be good all the way to stage 3. Its massive, bigger and with different end tanks than a R/S3 cooler, so no longer needed.

That's good news for the Amarok owners as changing intercoolers is a bit of work.

I'd recommend this upgrade especially to pre-facelift Tigs as they appear to all be running intercoolers with the thinner 32mm core.

Funny I didn't see massive gains on the dyno yesterday that I was expecting. Butt dyno (and 0-100 times) told me there was a significant improvement but the real world dyno showed only 4kW. Though the dyno had been recently serviced/recalibrated and many others thought they had dropped too so it may be that I can't compare the before and after dyno results...

Perhaps also post the intercooler in the parts for sale area. I know Tiggy1 managed to get his hands on one recently but I think the Mk5 GTI and Octavia RS guys would be interested in it too.

                          Hi guys,

Long time admirer of all the cool stuff being done to the tig!

With regards to the Golf R intercooler, is this simply plug and play with the tiguan hoses? I contacted a shop here in Perth and they told me that an extra bracket was needed as well as modifications??

It depends on the generation of the Tig. Older 125KW Tigs had MK5 GTI style intercooler so some modification to the piping is necessary.

As you can see that style intercooler accept hoses with a special metal clip. In that case you may have to remove the metal clip and modify the hose or use an adapter to connect to the Golf R intercooler.

But later generation Tiguans and high spec Tiguans ( 155TSI or 147TSI) have MK6 GTI intercooler and you don't have to do any modifications to install a golf R intercooler.

Apart form that Golf R/ S3 intercooler is direct bolt on to any Tig except 118TSI Tigs.

                              Welcome fellow Tig modder

I've done this mod on a 2011 125TSI and it's definitely worthwhile if you can get your hands on a good second-hand unit. There's a few that come up from time to time from people with S3/Golf R that upgrade.

As Ramee says there is some modification to the pipework that is needed. If you can get the pipes with the Golf R intercooler as likely if they have upgraded the intercooler they will have done the pipes also.

I think from memory I used the Golf R hose on the outlet and modified the Tiguan hose on the inlet (the Golf R hose is too short). If you cut off the aluminium connector from the stock Tiguan hose it will slip over the Golf R inlet. Then all you need is a couple of hose clamps to secure it - job done!

Of course there's the other part where you pull the front end off the car and disassemble so that you can pull the old intercooler out and slip the new one in... so once you've done that modifying the hoses is the easy bit!
