  • Manual Tig being discontinued?

    Hey guys,

New to the forum, and hopefully upcoming new to VW ownership,

Just wanted to ask, has anyone heard of VW either discontinuing, or VW Australia not bringing in, Manual Tiguans?

I'm in the market for a manual 103tdi, and a couple of dealers have stated this to be happening, but I do smell a rat!

Spoke to VW Australia, and they stated still bringing in, but has anyone heard otherwise.

I believe the dealers throwing a furfy to get me to sign on the dotted line....

    Cheers Richie

I seriously doubt they are discontinuing the Manual.
If they do it would be in the next model i.e. Mk3 Tig and it just wouldn't be an option from the factory (like the polo gti)

Seriously doubt it all you want but we can no longer order manual Tiguans.

Only the 118TSI is available in manual.

I am a dealer so you probably wont believe me anyway.

        Isn't the current Tig a Mark I?
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

Mine is the Mk1, the Mk2 is the facelifted version with the different headlights and front bumper (they introduced the 118TSI engine and FWD versions in the Mk2 along with a revised power output for both 2.0TSI engines)

I did not think a facelift qualified as a whole new mark. Or is the Golf the only brand for which VW uses the term "Mark"?

In the VW brand, every new iteration gets a new Mk number, usually the even numbers are the facelifts.
I.e. The Mk5 golf was a fresh design, the mk6 was the facelift.

It also happens to Polo's and Tiguan's and Jetta's

If they discontinued the manual...that would be stupid sales suicide!
                The manual is great!

If you had the sales figures with manual vs auto split the reality may be quite the opposite.

Well just looking on carsales there's about 2/3 auto and 1/3 manual. Though if you take out the 118TSI (which are all manuals) then you get around 75% auto (including DSG) vs 25% manual.

So yes there are definitely fewer manuals being sold, however it's not like it's only 5% of models.

The reason they sold the 118TSI in manual is that it fits into the price point (sub $30k). Wondering what they're going to do with this model given that the 118TSI has been discontinued in the Golf.

Oh well...... If the next model Tiguan doesn't have the manual or auto option then there's no way I'll be upgrading to it..... DSG's and towing just doesn't work, especially when pulling boats out of a boat ramp.... Tigs may be rated to tow 2 tonne but a DSG trying to pull a 1300kg boat out of a ramp just does not work, nor does reversing up a steep incline with a bit of weight behind you... hmmmmm toureg might be next......

It's a sad day when one can no longer purchase a manual car. I got the last manual vRS Skoda Octavia (Race Blue) in Australia late last year, so manuals are certainly hard to come by in the VAG department.

And yet in the UK, Manuals are the more common choice!

We are certainly becoming more and more American as a society

Manuals are much more popular 2nd hand, due to the general perception of unreliability of the DSGs ....

                              I for 1 will never buy a 2nd hand DSG VW .... ever ....

I sold my manual Tiguan within a week for the asking price when there were few manuals on carsale and lots of auto/dsg Tiguans.
