Buying a new Tiguan 2013 132TSI Pacific DSG 7 speed
I wasn't aware it would be delivered with these wheels, or I would have ticked the 18 inch wheel option for sure! All the car's on the lot, and that we test drove, had the older style wheels. I'm not that fussed really given it's the girlfriends car. I'd like to put the 18 inch New York wheels on, but they are impossible to find.

Sorry to interrupt the thread, but pics of these new wheels?
Yes that's them. I've seen them on a 2012 Tig in the carpark at the local shopping centre. I thought they were a strange choice the person had made for an aftermarket wheel, but now realise it's the new "standard" option for the 132TSI.
I kind of understand maybe where they were going with this but it reminds me of the wheels off a 10 year old landcruiser.
Hmm, 6 spoke / 7 spoke? They have the one advantage though; they're probably more curb rash resistant, than the wheels from 2 years ago.
What can I say? You will get use to it.
A bit rough for citydirve users, center sticks out more obvious then what you see from the photos shown above. Agreed it would be stronger and may provide more stability on road...
I asked to swap to other set of wheel, or walk away.

Maybe it's because I live in Cruiser Country, but I quite like them
What tyres (brand/size) are on it? I have New York 18's on mine (came on the car - already optioned) and would actually prefer 17's in that design. Still like new (almost) - no gutter rash, just a couple of stone chips. PM me (Bakks) if you might be interested in a swop
Assuming they are still the same bolt pattern (5 x 112) and ET (offset) as the MY11 ?
Am due to ditch the crap Bridgestones that came on it in a week or two, so get back to me ASAP.
Cheers
Edit: just checking specs - appears they are only 16". Would be too much of a step down I'm afraid - sorry for getting both our hopes up
Here is the tip, and it helped me, since I hated that design as well.
Just look at them for 5 minutes or so and keep repeating; they aren't that bad looking, they look actually quite good. ...and after while they will look better too your eye.
The above only helps, if you aren't king of person who replaces std wheels anyway. I think.
Yeah, I guess anything looks good if you look at it long enough (and have enough beers while doing so)
As I said, I quite like it - but after having 4 Foresters am probably still flushing Jap crap design out of system
NY's are a PITA to clean too (having just spent last hour doing so)
2011 147TSi 7spd DSG Reflex Silver, 18" New York Alloys, Leather with MDI, ECB Nudge Bar, Viezu Tune (Work in Progress), Eibach ProKit Springs, SuperPro Poly ALK & Rear Trailing Arm Bushes, H&R 26mm Rear ASB and Whiteline HD Adjustable End-Links, VAR Design 3" Downpipe, Sprint Booster, Auto-Polar FIS+ Advanced Module, GTI Sports Pedals, Flappy Paddle Strg Wheel, LED fogs as DRL, chrome blingy bits
From memory, the one we test drove last year had those wheels, and unfortunately we couldn't stretch to get the 18"s.
But the dealer said the cost was $2300 from factory for the 18", and also $2300 from the dealer, which means an extra set of tyres if these don't grow on me.
At the end of the day, it was either that or leather, and considering the normal trim, that was a pretty easy decision.

I admit I ordered my MY13 Tiguan Pacific thinking I was getting the old wheels, and was quite gutted when it turned up with the new style. But having had the car for 6 weeks now, I don't mind them at all. They definitely grow on you.
If money grew on trees I'd definitely get the 18s though!
