  • Buying a new Tiguan 2013 132TSI Pacific DSG 7 speed

    Hey guys, I just signed a contract for the Tiguan 2013 132TSI Pacific DSG 7 speed. I'm a bit concerned as the dealership initially amended the contract to include the DSG 7 speed model, but then when we went to sign, we didn't notice they had given us an unamended version (reads 132TSI Pacific 6 speed). Waiting to hear back from them about this issue. We got it for around 36,000 with a couple small options. Is that a decent price?

    Anyway, having somewhat second thoughts now. Really liked the Skoda Yeti 103TDI which I am guessing is better off road and I believe has better fuel consumption. We could probably get it around 32k with the a few options. Curious if you guys have any thoughts or suggestions.

    I'm a Skoda owner and big Yeti fan so of course I'd say buy that, but in reality both the Tiguan and Yeti are excellent vehicles and I'm sure that you'd love either of them. Both of them are far, far superior to pretty much any other compact SUV, that's for sure. A Yeti 103TDI for $32,000 is amazing value for money.

      FYI the 132 Pacific auto models are all non-DSG 6 speed automatic gearboxes. The successor model will be the 132 DSG (non pacific) with no extras. Go the Pacific!

      The 7-speed DSG is woefully fail and you will cry sweet tears of joy not having it after a few years with no issues. Go the non-dsg route at all costs.

        Unfortunately I have to agree with mythik. I have a MY12 132 DSG and the Dsg box is the worst gearbox I have ever had, unless you are after a chugging diesel sounding car that will nearly kill you crossing an intersection.

        It is very good for economy, but a freaking awful thing to use. D mode is like a slug, S mode so jerky it actually hurts to drive, which leaves tiptronic manual mode. Manual is ok but with 7 gears you spend all day rowing it.

        Seriously the 4 speed auto in my 2003 forester xt was better both off the mark and driving. Crap economy though!

        VW should be ashamed of the dsg, and their dealer 'service'.

          Thanks for all of your posts.

          I haven't looked into cars since we got our golf around 8 years ago so I have a lot to catch up on. From what I understand, it will be the Pacific model but it will also have 7 speed and the DSG which I thought was a great deal considering it's a bit closer to the higher model (155) but without bluemotion. The consultant didn't tell us we had this option initially. I believe the new shipment will be coming in a month or so?

          Do you think there will be any issue if my contract still reads with the old model name?

          I've already put the deposit down. I'm not sure that I would get it back if I were to change my mind. I've heard conflicting things regarding the DSG. I heard this box would be dry which has less issues? Fuel economy is a big concern of mine. It looks like it doesn't make much difference on economy from what I've seen online at the moment.

            We have had our new DSG 103 Tdi Tiguan for just over a month and find it a pleasure to drive after owning a manual Tiguan for 4 yrs plus.
            The manual was not the greatest of gearboxes and very jerky using around town and quick smooth shifts were not easy to achieve.
            Compared to our other car a 320d 6 spd auto we find the D mode extremely slow (it uses second gear (D2) to take off) and my wife has resorted to using S mode when driving In heavy traffic.. Fortunately maybe because it is a diesel it not exhibit any jerkiness in S mode as Blackdakdak speaks about or maybe were too used to the old manual Tiguan that served us so well.

            Economy wise it uses about 10% more fuel around town and have yet to test it on the open road but I doubt if it will match the manual. So far we are pleased with the decision to go The DSG route. The stop start also takes getting used to and I wouldn't be too keen on this if we had a manual and were stuck in the middle of rush hour in downtown Brisbane or Sydney

              There is nothing wrong with the DSG in terms of mechanical issues or fuel economy. in those aspects they are superior then the 6spd also faster. dont misunderstand the complains here. the main issue is with it's gear shifting too quickly to save fuel in D mode. it saves fuel but its sluggish. what i do is pop it into tiptronic mode when i want to over take or get that extra speed then switch it back to D. correct me if i'm wrong here but fuel economy is DSG>6spd, pure acceleration 0-100 DSG>6spd, rated up to 600NM torque its the same DSG they use in the Audi TT RS.

                Hi Tritenmer,

                We also have ordered a 2013 Tiguan, and the contract says 6 speed auto because that was what was in the system at the time. However I had sent an email to the dealer, so that I have (at least in digital format) a written agreement that the car will come with the DSG.

                Now as to whether it will come on time or not, that is another question...

                But $36k is a great price, considering that RRP is $40k, and some options to boot.

                  I too have a 132TSI with DSG and the only complaint i have is the gearbox shift pattern from a stand still. It does shift into second very quickly but i also use S mode to take off if i need to get somewhere in a hurry and then flick it back to D when i am done.

                  To those of you complaining about it nearly killing you i would suggest being a little more patient and not turning in front of on coming cars. Sure i got caught out myself when i first bought the car but its all it took for me to realise i was driving a family car and not an R35 GTR. If you want a performance car you clearly pruchased the wrong vehicle.

                  I know you shouldnt have to do it, but its an easy fix with a DSG tune.

                  re your worries about the car your going to be supplied, I would call the dealer and discuss it and if they tell you its a DGS simply ask for the contract to be adjusted. If they are genuine they shouldnt have any troubles doing it. If they cant, just ask them for an email confirming yoru order of a DSG equipped vehicle

                    Thanks for the feedback. I sent an email and i'm now waiting for a response. Will call if I dont hear back. I'm not too worried now as I beieve there is a cooling off period. A lawyer friend gave me some good advice in case something like this happens again. Apparently I should have worded my email differently. It would have been better to send an email confirming what was decided and leave it to them to get back to me if they disagree. If they dont refute it then in theory they have acknowleded what was written.

                      My daughter's TDI Tig with the DSG is as smooth as silk and she doesn't complain about anything I read in this thread. My wife and I drive 6 speed auto TDI and can't complain either. The DSG Tig has 1L better fuel economy than 6sp auto and is quicker of the marks. Either the way you'll be happy. The Yeti is a good choice too.

                        A pretty nice idea, the only issue is that you would have to have had a mail delivery notice on it, otherwise they could claim they never received it, which defeats the purpose in the first place.
                        How long did they quote as a delivery time? (Assuming it is a factory order, not already made)

                          They quoted for end of february. I believe the car has already been built and on the boat when I signed the contract. I got my email confirmation so all is good. Excited to get it. I just wish the fuel economy was lower but I do very little driving so it should be okay.

                            Given the size of the car i reckon the fuel economy is awesome.

                            Admittedly i do mainly highway driving but my 132TSI gets on average 750klms out of 60 odd litres of fuel and i do most of my driving on cruise control at 118kph

                              We got out 132TSI Pacific earlier in the week. Seems like a good car, except it came with the horribly ugly new design wheels!
