Unless you can write the loss from depreciation off on tax it's a very expensive thing to change cars regularly.

Well I can do that but it's still a loss no matter how you look at it.

Had someone come look today and take it for a test drive. They want to get it checked out by a german VW specialist, only issue I have with that, is it's about a 70km drive. Not sure I'm willing to go to those lengths to sell it.

Make them to pay you for your time and you will see how serious they are.
and offer to refund the $100 if they buy the car.
...they already would pay for the car inspection so $100 or so more shouldn't break the bank if they're serious.

How about get the specialist to come to you? I know a good mobile VW specialist.... though come to think of it I don't think MRL covers your area

I'm sure it would cost them a lot more than $100 extra to get their VW specialist to come and have a look at the car. Maybe you can meet them half-way?

You need to treat every person as if they will buy the car or you will never sell it.

I tried that with my S3 and turned down an offer that was $2k less than what i wanted it for it. I ended up selling for a lot less than that as it sat for too long on carsales

My brother turrned down a reasonable offer on his house. He ended up dropping $100k and taking another 6 months to sell...

I would ask for a copy of the report then if they don't buy your car you can either fix any bits up and keep receipts or just use it as a tool to sell your car. It could be a good thing to have and all it's cost you is a bit of time and some diesel.

Well at least you didn't have to drive over the other side of the city for them to work that out. Sometimes when people have to put their hand in their pocket it forces them to decide whether it's something that they really want. Better luck with the next one.

People will tell you anything to make themselves feel better for pulling out of a sale. If i had an inquiry on the car that i hadnt spoken to for some time I use to call them back. They would normally come up with some bull****e excuse to not buy it so i would drop the price for them only to hear the truth from them, and that was normally another car had been purchased. Happened half a dozen times at least. The other buyers would normally tell me straight up they bought one brand new

Yeah true, people do these things.. They have their excuses.. if they're not buying I can't force them to. Had another buyer lined up for tomorrow.. and I thought it was today so just called to check since he was '20 mins' late. He said he was going to call me tomorrow to let me know he already purchased another car.. We'll get there in the end! Hopefully before safety cert runs out and have to get a new one.

If the person was legitimately going to call you they would have done so as soon as they had purchased the car. Why would you wait until the time of the inspection to tell someone you werent going to show up? Then again, maybe i am one of the few left on the planet who has some manners and hates wasting peoples time

And the car is never sold until its paid for in full and picked up. Even if you have a deposit dont market it as sold. Tell them you have a deposit on it but will be in touch if it falls through. If they want to look at it show it too them, just make sure they understand it cant be test driven and you will not accept higher dollars to sell it to them.

Well maybe he was reading this.. He called tonight and left a message about not going ahead with purchase. They were looking for something a little bigger - grand kids etc. Lovely chap and nice to hear back even though I didn't need to... See, not everyone is like that.

I hate the phone calls that try and haggle on price before they've even seen it... 'Will you take 12 for it?' etc.

From memory I've gone thru 7 cars in 10 years for both the Mrs and myself.. so not too many.. and that included cars needed because we had kids etc.. The latest additions I thought would be keepers especially the VW,, but 3 years on she's going too.

Well folks, today was fun! Had a buyer come thru at 8am, liked the car etc.. Left the keys in the ignition (my fault).. Went to find keys 2hrs later, noticed they were in the car, parking lights were on.. Battery flat.. RACQ to the rescue, got it running, charging well.. problem is every bloody light that can be on, is on, including a warning to service the air bags... Oh and now everything's in German, blutiges Auto macht mich verruckt................. sigh!!!

So my question for today... Can I reset this back to English myself? Or is this a trip to VW or someone with the diagnostic tool to reset it and get all the lights off again?
