Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bling bling for the car door

Has anyone ever seen this? I was a bit taken aback. Had a cough. But thought it looked interesting - tech-wise. I dunno how difficult this will be, certainly be an irreversible mod since it involves drilling a hole at the bottom of the car door.

Image looked too good to be true. Photoshop?

And then I looked at a youtube vid of it. and .. well, judge for yourself.
I don't think I'll ever get one of this done. What do you guys think?
$25 inclusive of postage, and it even provides the drill bit.

I think it's fitted in the door trim. It's very cool, I like it.

Well that photo is definitely edited but the videos look cool. But then I reckon I'd also get embarrassed by them.

Yes especially when you appear to be deliberately taking your time closing the doors.

I've seen these a month or two ago. Relatively inexpensive mod and certainly has the "cool" factor.

It is difficult to reverse as you do need to cut holes in the bottom of your door trims - though if you got sick of them you could always disconnect them. Who is going to look at the bottom of your door trims when you sell your car anyway?

Only question is who's going to be the first to install a set???

Only question is do you install on all 4 doors or just the fronts?

                  Fronts would be sufficient imo.

Maybe put another one at the rear of the car to constantly shine on the road behind you as you drive. Not sure how long the bulb lasts.

I like this idea. I mean, my brain was on "car door" but you are right, it could be anywhere. Even, say, when you open the garage door and it shines on the floor.

I think LEDs should last .. emphasis on the "should".
                      Cheers, Abuthen.

For $25 including postage? I couldn't ship this to you from Melb for postage alone of less than $10 (excluding product). Sometimes I'm blown away by how they can include manufacturing, packaging, handling and postage for these kind of prices.

Just added some "bling" to my interior lighting:

I also got a set of white LEDs for the footwell just in case I've had enough of the blue.

The LED lighting is a lot brighter and a whole lot whiter.

Very nice. Can I ask where you got them from? and are they plug and play replacements?
