Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Boost gauge lighting; 2010 TSI

    Hey guys.

I have searched high and low on the interwebs with no guaranteed results. Also I will introduce myself properly in a few weeks time, sorry to just show up and appear to demand answers!

I have a 2010 VW Tiguan (Ex Karl Reindler, if that rings a bell) and have just installed a NewSouth boost gauge. Everything works perfectly but I'm not sure which wire to splice into for the illumination. I'd hate to wire it incorrectly. The supplied instructions state: Use red auto-tap connector to attach white wire from gauge to blue-grey wire from headlight switch

I cannot for the life of me find a BLUE-GREY wire and don't want to take any chances.

    Thanks in advance,
    Kirbo.

Have you been to the back of the headlight switch. VW have used the same colour code for dash lighting since the MK1 Golf.

I think you need an Autopolar FIS+ Advanced. No need to cut into wiring on the steering wheel loom.

      Pressure guages look like this:

and you can also display key engine parameters:

      and various temperatures:

Saves having a gazillion gauges stuck all over your car.

And the backlighting is already pre-wired

Yes, I removed the headlight switch and have pulled back the loom sock revealing maybe a dozen wires. All of the VW boost gauge threads regarding a lighting wire, tap into anything from a solid grey, orange and even grey/green wire. I'm not one to just jam into a loom, I figured it can't vary soo much across the vw range. Tiguan can't be unique?

That is very neat! It's a shame I wasn't aware of such a device until now. Much better than an open laptop on the passenger seat! For now being that the gauge is already mounted in an air vent, I'll keep it for now. Cheers.

Yes I was loking for a boost gauge a couple of months ago and posted a question here

Since that time I've ended up organising 3 group buys and now there's quite a few VWs and the odd Skoda with one of these installed.

It's a neat device - will even dip your passenger mirror for you when in reverse gear.

So I read that PIN10 is the dimmer wire on the headlight switch. So I stripped back to the switch, not just the loom. ITS SOLID GREY! I need glasses. Problem solvered. Haha

Quick review of the newsouth gauge. Great! Instructions are thorough, supplied fittings are good quality and they've thought of pretty much everything! The only piece that didn't work is the splice for the dimmer. Just peeled back 1mm of wire, soldered and heat shrunk instead. Time will tell if it's bullet proof.

            Cheers

Also installed an optima yellow top & ran 4Ga cable for amps soon to be installed. To my surprise, fits perfectly! Happy days. & before anybody asks, boost sits on -20 @ idle. The aircon was running 100% on start up.
