DSG five year warranty?

  • DSG five year warranty?

    Hi all
    In the process of finalizing a new Tiguan to replace our old 2008 model. The local dealer has the exact one we are after but it has a DSG box instead of a manual one. The salesman has told me there is a five year warranty on this particular component. Can anyone confirm this? I have read a number of horror stories on various VW forums to be uncomfortable with their reliability.

    BTW he has offered me a diesel model with comfort pack,fog lights,metallic paint and DSG box for $40750 drive away. Does this sound like a good deal?

      Just get it written on your contract.

        It's interesting that others have had DSG problems, I've had the same MkV Golf Comfortline TDI 2.0 DSG for almost seven years and despite not treating it with kid gloves, I've never had a problem with the DSG gearbox. It seems to take everything I can throw at it and then some. And it isn't even a German build - its from the South African assembly line. Am I just lucky?

        Indeed the only time I ever had a problem, it was because I'd let the tank get too low and just fell short of the nearest petrol station. It required a tow to the Volkswagen dealer (it wouldn't start, despite a top-up), and even then it only required a reset of the computer and it was right to go again. So it was just that, and occasionally wanting a little extra oil between services. Not bad for almost seven years of driving in all conditions.

        I only hope my new CC, which I'm waiting on to roll out of the factory at Emden, is as trouble free.

          haven't heard any issues with the 7spd dsg? golf Rs at stage 3+ producing 500hp make no changes to their transmission.

                We have ordered the DSG with our new Pacific, and even though it is not on the system of the dealer, I have email confirmation from the salesman that it will be delivered with the DSG, so either that or get it written in the contract. And yes, they have told me that it is a 5 year warranty with the DSG, hoping not to need it.

                  I thought the Golf R still uses the old 6spd wet clutch DSG.

                  Heaps of issues with the 7 spd dry clutch DSG too if you have a look around but they seem to be nailing it. Tiguan 7spd is wet though so, so different again (ta, trsnporter)

                    What makes you think that the DSG in Tiguan is the same as in Golf6?

                        Doesn't the Pacific only come with the 132kw 2L petrol with a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed torque converter automatic?

                          At the time of launch in 2003 - it became the world's first dual clutch transmission in a series production car, in the German-market Volkswagen Golf Mk4 R32 and shortly afterwards, worldwide in the original Audi TT 3.2; and for the first few years of production, this original DSG transmission was only available in transversely orientated front-engine, front-wheel-drive — or Haldex Traction-based four-wheel-drive vehicle layouts.

                          The first DSG transaxle that went into production for the Volkswagen Group mainstream marques had six forward speeds (and one reverse), and used wet/submerged multi-plate clutch packs (Volkswagen Group internal code: DQ250, parts code prefix: 02E). It has been paired to engines with up to 350 N·m (260 lb·ft) of torque, and the two-wheel-drive version weighs 93 kg (210 lb). It is manufactured at Volkswagen Group's Kassel plant, with a daily production output of 1,500 units.

                          At the start of 2008, another world first, an additional 70 kg (150 lb) seven-speed DSG transaxle (Volkswagen Group internal code: DQ200, parts code prefix: 0AM) became available. It differs from the six-speed DSG, in that uses two single-plate dry clutches (of similar diameter). This clutch pack was designed by LuK Clutch Systems, LLC. This seven-speed DSG is used in smaller front-wheel-drive cars with smaller displacement engines with lower torque outputs, such as the latest Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Polo Mk5, and the new SEAT Ibiza, due to it having a maximum torque handling capacity of 250 N·m (180 lb·ft). It has considerably less oil capacity than the six-speed DQ250; this new DQ200 uses just 1.7 litres (0.37 imp gal; 0.45 US gal) of transmission fluid.

                          In September 2010, VW launched a new seven-speed DSG built to support 500 N·m (370 lb·ft), the DQ500. Its first use was in the Audi TT-RS."

                          So that we're all on the same page the Tiguan uses the higher rated DQ500 7-speed DSG which is a wet clutch system as opposed to the dry clutch DQ250 7 speed found in Golf6 etc. Totally different kettle of fish.

                            Long story short. The 125TSI used to come with 7 speed DSG. When the model update happened in 2011 there was a shortage of DQ500 DSG gearboxes worldwide so VWA downspecced the larger volume selling 132TSI to have the 6 speed auto. The worldwide shortage of 7 speed DSG must have been resolved so they're bringing it back in the 132TSI.

                              But, I don't.

                              That's how the gossips are spread by media. You heard something or read something somewhere and apply it to every 7speed DSG transmission and the next 100 people who read your post will believe it and send your HS further. It travels very well in today’s medias.

                              So, what in time could be a good source of information (still needed to be verified, if you're going to use that info), can one day be a known source of misinformation. That's where the internet could be heading.

                              For some time now, I no longer consider the open forums and internet where anyone can post whatever they like as a source for information.
