  • a click sound when you start the car??

    Hi guys,

    I have a 09 TIguan (auto, 147, only 20 000km on the clock).

I heard a "click" sound from the engine or somewhere when i start driving the car.

    More discription:
ever morning, when i start the engine, change to "D",reless park brake, release the brake, the car start rolling off the driveway and everything is fine. However, once step on the gas slightly (still under 15km/h), i can hear a light "click" sound. just once. it wont happen again when you stop, put it is "P" or "N" or use EM hand brake. and it just wont happen again.

the "click" sound only happen again when you stop and remove the key and start the car again.

it is not horrible and should not be worried. but I just want to know if anyone have a similar "click" sound and what it is.
(give it a go and try to notice that)

    cheers

Hi victor, i get something similar in my manual Tiggy, & i think it has something to do with when the 4Motion system reverts back to front wheel drive at around 15-20kph. As you say, nothing to worry about... Happy to stand corrected if it's not that!

Could be the auto hold at play.

See if you can replicate the noise, with that disabled.

          hi all,

so love this forum, always get some replys.

-first of all, it is of course not the door acturators. (I will not be so stupid to ask that question if it is the door lock)
-I dont think it is the autohold either. cos i never use autohold and the click sound happens when the car is actually rolling at low speed!?
-i think possiblly may be the 4motion, but if it is the case, howcome i can only hear it once(what i start the car). but it wouldnt happen again when i drive , stop , pull it in "N" and drive again. weird!!

I think the same thing your talking about happens in my polo gti. It only happens when i first take off and does not happen again till turn off the car. Could be normal

EDIT: Uploaded a video I recorded of it.

Ive never heard that noise in my Golf - so its not the 4motion system. And the video posted above of the Polo further reinforces that its not the 4motion.....as they are fwd of course.

                Bluetooth?
                DSG/Auto specific noise?

No DSG in a 2009 Tig. Was only available from MY 2011 onwards.

I certainly get a similar clicking noise like that when I quickly turn steering wheel from full lock one direction to the other.
Unfortunately due to the crappy tight design of the underground carpark in our apartment.

Either a steering rack or strut mount problem in my case, which fcuking stealers refuse to entertain.

But I assume the clicking noise at low speed (in the above cases) occurs when car is going in a straight line?

+1 For thinking it's ABS self test. My Calais and Astra used to do it but I can't say I've noticed it in the Passat...

I wouldnt be too concerned, everytime i bring a rattle/issue/noise up with the stealers i would get one of three responses.

                            1) characteristic of the car
                            2) diagnostic scan does not show any error code thus not our problem
                            3) user error.

All of which are a load of crap imo, and just VW's poor customer service. Unless its a safety issue, or a obvious performance related issue they are as useful as a suicidal counselor.

I couldn't agree more with you. They even have the balls to charge a fee just for looking at rattles or any sort of noise. I guess fixing rattles is not their top priority.
