  • Why is the bonnet release on the passenger side!!??

Is something wrong with my car!??

I was going on a long road trip today so wanted to check the fluid levels etc and for the life of me I couldn't figure out where it was on the driver side. The manual shows the European design (driver side ie left side) so I went to check it and there is was.

My Golf has it on the Australian driver side so this was an odd aberration to me.

Is this the same for everyone else or have I got to send this car back!??

I actually did a search here before I posted but couldn't find a related post...

Anyway did a google search and saw the reference in a UK Auto Trader review.

So it looks like the VW designer just got lazy with the Tiguan.

Not wrong there ... the metal rod that holds the bonnet up can be further proof.

for the number of times you need to open the bonnet from your driving seat, its really not worth changing it over

One of my pet peeves is the lack of standardization in cars. I used to spend half an hour in the cold whenever I picked up a rental car in the US because some genius decided that to release a foot brake you had to press a button half obscured by the steering wheel.

I'm confirming it as well! The bonnet release is on the passenger side in our Tiguan as well.
At least it isn't in the glowebox like in some other cars.

Really Guys?? is it such a big deal which side the bonnet release is on?
Imagine having a focus! In order to open the bonnet on those you have to rotate the badge emblem around on the grille, and use the key to open the bonnet!

Ok Dr F - you go into the salesman to buy a tiggy, and he offers you a Tiggy, and one on the option boxes to tick is to relocate the bonnet release to the RHS for only $1k extra- you going to tick the box?

It should only be a PITA the first time.

Every other time, you've only got yoursef to blame.

Yes, you should return it and demand a refund or compensation for mental anguish.

BTW, the indicator and wiper stalks are on the "wrong way round" on your Tiguan, as well as on your Golf. You should get the dealer to fix that up as well.
