I would love to continue modifying it until there was nothing left to do but I think the tune and a couple electronical mods will be the only thing I will be doing to this car. The misses has said nothing on this car... But I think I can justify the tuning but telling her it safer without all that Turbo lag and could save on fuel in the long run (even if that is not the case)
Yes it's quite easy to justify the performance upgrades as a "safety feature".
Just be warned once you start it's hard to stop the mod bug....

That is what I am worried about. None of my cars have been stock... Its like a tattoo, you cant just have one, got my first at 18, now half my body is covered in them.
I think I am doomed
MY12 VW Tiguan Pacific | 2.0lt 132TSI | Manual | 4MOTION | Comfort Pack | ACC | 18in New York Wheels | Tinted Windows
currently in the process of getting my tig pacific 132tsi flashed with stage 1... let's just say it hasn't been the greatest experience...
since it's relatively new... ECU was taken out... but could not be flashed... now car won't start and tuner doesn't know why... it's been a week already and looks like another week until anything gets resolved... i'm pretty gutted... suffice to say, the dealer has been trying his hardest and kudos to him and the team... it's just really disappointing it's taking so long and my tig is stuck in the workshop for 2 weeks... if i had the benefit of hindsight i should have just waited until a suitable time for the software to be tried/tested...
Ouch.
I think it's any tuners/owners worst nightmare to have a car not start after flashing the ECU.
A lot of the later model (post 2010) Tigs are bench tune only at the moment. Even though some tuners/companies claim they can do it, I haven't found any that can read them over the OBD port yet... And removing the ECU from the car will generally require opening up the ECU box to solder some extra wires onto the board. No way your VW warranty will be valid after this sort of work.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that your ECU was damaged in the process of taking out and soldering the wires on. I'm not a fan of auto workshops doing work on ECU circuit boards as these will typically be all surface mount electronics. It's really easy to "cook" components, the work is very fine and if you don't work on an anti-static mat you risk having an electrostatic discharge zap the delicate electronics. Important to have the right gear and also good skills in fine soldering work. Not the types of skills/experience/equipment that you'd typically find in your standard auto workshop.
Most decent tuners will be busting their guts to get your car going and sounds like your is, however worst case is you'll be up for a new ECU. If they are a reputable workshop they should have insurance and I'd be asking them to replace the ECU and claim it on their insurance. It may still take a while to get a new part in as VW may not keep these parts in the country.
All the best. Keep us posted on how you get on.

ouch, was thinking of doing the APR stage 1 during the sale too. this has put me off. i guess they would need to pay for any damages to the ECU or else it wont be going under warranty. do we have APR tuned dealers here like they have over in the US where stage 1-2 tunes can still make warranty claims? i heard united mortorsports tune are better then APR from the R community over in the US.

I'm interested to see how people find the APR stage 1 tune on the Tiguan. My wife wants one but I feel like it would be a little underpowered in standard form.

for the 125/132 it is a world of difference from stock, basically a whole new car.
for the 147/155 it doesn't feel as big a change but still well worth the $$.

Tigaun is not underpowered in the standard form, stock 132TSI does 0-100 in 7.9s, 155TSI is quicker at 7.4s, while Japanese NA compact SUVs hover around high 9s or more, I think Tigaun is plenty fast in comparison.
Take a look at Rav4 V6 and Forester XT (with tune) if you want something quicker, IMO they are more purposeful in terms of space and practicality, plus they come with full sized spare wheel, lower running cost and depreciation, but shame about the interior ambience and quality though.
Re APR stage 1, best value for $ in my opinion, effortless overtaking and shaves at least 1 second off 0-100 sprint for a bargain price.
i thought it was available for the tiguan as well. thus the "sigh" in my previous post?
Yes but problem is that you need the car physically in the same location to get the tune done (especially if it is a bench tune). So even though the tune may be $899 in the US it's going to cost a whole lot more to get your car there and back
There are a few tuning options for the Tiguan. I believe the only one that does DSG tuning right now on Tigs is APR, however there are a couple of others that are close if not already there (Viezu & Custom Code that I know of).
Generally you'll get a discount on DSG tune if you have the ECU tune with the same company. List price on APR tune + Harding Performance DSG Software is ~$2700 but at the moment they have Christmas specials so you'll probably get it for $2,300-$2,400. Still quite a way from your $899 though...
