Am taking the Tig to the dealer for first service and couple of little warranty fixes tomorrow, and am going to ask them if they can reprogram the Park & Fog lights as DRL and disable the bulb-out warnings through VAGCOM, but may have to look at getting that doo-hickey if they are unwilling/unable to do so.
    Cheers

I very much doubt a stealer will do it for you!

Firstly, they don't want to be held responsible or you coming back for any subsequent coding problems.

But most importantly, I doubt if they would be able to work it out what to tick exactly.

Not sure whether you'd want to be paying them by the hour to figure it out.

Anyhow, suggest you print out the required tweaks and hand it to them as a cheat sheet.

BTW, no point getting them to clear the fault codes until you have the wiring or error free bulbs sorted out.
Otherwise will just come back straight after they clear it.

Yep, you're dead right - used the excuse that it is against Qld Transport regs to use them as DRL. Thought I'd give it a go though seeing as they were trying to suck up after I whinged to VW Australia when the dealer I bought the car off (different one) totally stuffed up doing first service (forgot in fact, after driving 900 odd km to get to them). Looks like will have to invest in VAGCOM license after all. Will definitely look in to getting the resisitors though - cheers for that

Have just upgraded my park bulbs to these 9 SMD LEDs:

Here's the results coupled with the LED fogs:

As you can see ... no blue tinge whatsoever with these park bulbs (unlike the fogs).

So very happy with the results!

For those that maybe interested (mylitco - UK):

          Hi mate,
look like the same ones I got (off same crowd) - are they throwing error on yours? Still do on mine goldarn it
Might have to be prepared to put up with error I think (as you say).

            No ... they don't!

Sounds like yours are fcuked already!

The Tig is very sensitive and will pick up slightest problem if the error-free circuitry is not 100%.

How long have you had them?

Unfortunately the price we have to pay (perhaps every 6-9 months), if we want whiter lights!

Certainly my previous ones (look at pics in post #14 above) were still physically working, but were throwing up an error.

When I replaced them last night, the circuit board was pretty brown and fried.

I think they're over 6 months old. Can't remember exactly.

              Hi mate,
mine are about 3-4 months old, but been throwing error from the start (although not always). Must be borderline - close but no cigar (sigh)
Have a few spares now anyway.
              Cheers

                Hi mate,
just ordered a set of these resistors/plugs for my LED fogs - just wondering where you ended up attaching yours (the heat sink part with resistors in it)?
                Cheers

Didn't bother. I just have it dangling.

But made sure it didn't hit or touch anything.

                    Ok, thanks

                    Hi,
got these today and plugged them in to try - NO ERROR, Yippee!
I think I will be pop-rivetting the resistor to the metal of the frame though - not too bad on RH side (plenty of room to leave hanging), but not so much on LH side, and many wires etc in close proximity. Things get freaking hot, so don't want to take the risk of melting through the insulation on other wires and whole thing going up in smoke (would ruin my whole day)

Now here's the new lead that's gotten rid of the problem:

                      Hey aussietig,

Do you have your foglights activated in VCDS as cornering lights? I ask as I want to know if the LED's flicker when they are fading off? If they do, I'll probably just stick with the halogens.

                      Thanks for your help!

                      Cheers,

Yes I have them enabled as such.

No ... flickering was probably first generation thing.

                        Current LEDs even handle dimming.

But obviously it depends on the quality of your LED bulbs.

If you can't tell then price & location sold is quite often a good indicator.

                            Hi.
have riveted resistors to couple of handy spots near fogs - pity the leads aren't a bit longer, as I had to turn my RH foglight upside down so I could get it to reach! Got them reprogrammed as DRL's when I had flappy paddle steering wheel fitted and all working good. My LED park lights still throw an error occasionally, but if I flick the light switch from Auto to Parkers on and back it clears the error (until I shut the car down again). Must be borderline as I said in earlier post. Anyways, no biggie and might look at trying some others down the track
