MY12 Tiguan 155TSI initial and driving impressions
With all due respect you couldnt have looked to hard as nearly all 132's in NSW are the 7 speed DSG. The one i bought yesterday most certainly is, and the dealer had numerous others in stock. The Pacfic is tiptronic, but there are loads of DSG 132's around still
I should also add that your dealer didnt look to hard as i am pretty sure they can check stock Australia wide and should have been able to get a hold of one for you pretty easily
Or have i totally misunderstood your poet lol
My requirements would have required a custom build. I don't think there are custom 132DSG. At least not in the brochure.
Isn't that the problem with the DQ250 dry clutch 7 speeder?
The 6 speed wet has been pretty reliable. I think the wet DQ500 on the Tiguan should be similar.
No DQ500 .... 7SPD 500NM DSG has issues. In passing conversation with Jimmy 2 weeks ago, he told me of a number of DSG Tiguans he's had problems with, 2 manual Tiguans that have had clutch issues (mine included) and no Tiptronic Tiguans with problems.
Jimmy sees over a 1000 VWs & Audis a year, so I respect his feedback.
I have the DQ500 in our 2011 Multivan and it has issues ..... even had 2 software updates applied at the last service to fix 2 issues with it ..... slow to respond and grating noises when changing gears. I'll be taking an extended warranty on it if I don't replace it soon.
EDIT: and you can have custom ordered 132s .... I had a custom ordered 125TSI manual with extras .....

We have a MkV GTI with the 6 speeder and it has been pretty robust since.
But I think you are right, an extended warranty might be prudent.

I think the 132DSG is out of production temporarily due to DSG shortages so there is only a 132 Pacific Edition, which you can custom order (both in Tip or manual)

This is what i believed to be the case.
They brought in a shipment of 132's before the DSG shortage so there are some available but if you wanted a factory build they don't come with DSG at the moment.
We picked up our 132 with DSG in January. 4.3k so far. In the normal D position, it is quite clear that the electronic setup of the box is for the ultimate in economy. This can be a little ponderous when turning or going around a round a bout (I'm in Canberra). S setting overcomes all of this but is a little more 'choppy' in changes.
This is my first DSG box and so far I have really enjoyed it and am learning its nuances.
Got my tinting and paintcare done at TintACar. My wife's Golf also had the same package done there and I thought her paintwork was still in good shape after a year so I decided to get mine there last Friday.
Then on Saturday, took a leisurely drive from Brisbane to Sydney. I covered the same exact distance before over Easter in the Golf 77TSI so it was a good way to compare both cars.
I had a few drives in Brisbane before travelling and found the Sports mode (Adaptive Chassis Control) really helped in reducing the roll when cornering but had to switch to Comfort when I was in NSW. NSW roads are really much more uncomfortable. Glad I ticked that option.
If I had to criticise one aspect of the Tiguan, it would be in terms of steering feel. It feels overly assisted and not as precise nor provide as much feedback as even the base Golf. But given where the Tiguan is primarily used, I don't think it's going to be a serious shortcoming.
The seats were comfortable and the interior felt well put together. A few times I thought I heard rattling turned out to be the water bottle in the door storage cubby holes.
I think the miles were a lot easier to count down and I drove for longer periods and the cruise control was really nice to have in speed controlled areas.
If there was one thing I learnt from the trip, it's that I don't think I would want to modify the Tiguan. It's fairly balanced out of the factory and if I upped the power, I'd make sure the brakes were already upgraded. And I am not sure if that needs to be accompanied by an upgrade to the suspension. Besides, I also don't find the Tiguan as involving a drive so maybe I'll need to find a fun car later on.

In all seriousness, you should try brinigng the Tiguan out to Happy Laps when you are in Brisbane as it gives you more of a chance to see what it can do.
I am up to Stage 2 and the oem brakes/suspension are sufficient enough.

I agreed with team_v below. The brakes on the Tiguans (same as the GTI Golfs) are certainly up to the task of slowing a Stage 2 Tiguan (200kw) down ..... I had no issues on mine and team_v certainly has shown that there are no problems on his many happy laps where he certainly keeps up with a lot of "more fancied" sports VWs .....
Suspension wise, again team_v is doing well with stock suspension. I had H&R sport suspension and it certainly improved the handling (as did 235/50/18s) tremendously, but for me it ruined to some extent the daily drive experience ....
A Stg1 Tiguan is much more lively than a standard 155 and even more so than a 125/132 .... its certainly the best performing small SUV under $50K by a large margin. 125/132 runs out of puff (due to the ECU VW tune) by 5000rmin and you can feel it. 190+ Tiguan sings well past 6500rmin pulling like a train .... it is really good.

Maybe in regular road situations (extra weight and higher suspension would do that) but once you push it you find out what it's really made of.
I have only once felt the 4Mo system when i have been on regular roads so that may also have something to do with it.
You will usually be driving a heavier/higher/fwd golf.
You are welcome to give mine a test at some of our events when you are next up here.
