Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Low tyre pressure indicator retrofit in Tiguan?

    Hi there

Does anyone know if this option can be retrofitted easily. It used to be avaliable as part of the off road option in the previous model but it is now only avaliable on the 155TSI model. I have found it to be extremely useful in my other car (BMW 320d) as too often a slow puncture or a puncture on a low profile tyre is only noticed by certain drivers who should remain nameless until the tyre is literally shreded!

Thanks a really in depth article. I was rather hoping VW would have something similar to BMW with a software update/mod and use a "software switch" menu option in the MFD to reset/calibrate the system when the tyre pressures are changed.

I have Tiguan with the TPMS and my daughter has the 2012 Model without it, I will check during the weekend if it's do-able or not and let you know.

I looked at this and decided also that it was too involved. I was expecting that you could buy the reset button as a spare part, plug it in, then enable it through software. Maybe someone will yet test this. The other option is to buy a more accurate $400 TPMS kit, get the sensors fitted into the wheels, with the remote LCD display stuck on the dash somewhere

I quickly scanned the controllers and they're all the same in 2012 and 2010 models. The 2012 has different style coding but VCDS allows to change (add) TPMS, just need to change the code that is suggested there and hope it works. I've had a busy weekend and the car had to leave at 18:00, so I didn't have enough time to try it, but will attempt it next weekend.

So this might work without any other mods?

It looks like it could, and also adding the reset button shouldn't be a problem. I checked the wiring diagram from MK5 Golf and 2011Passat, the reset button is easy to add on, but resetting with VCDS is not that difficult and without the need to spend money on the button.
