Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

For starters the headlamps would need to be split open which is a task in itself on the latest type of lamps because the adhesive used is heat resistant. You would then to (in my understanding) to cut open the top section housing where that little design is. I noticed 4 distinct compartments as part of the headlamp design each of which could house a single high power LED and the chrome internal surround would act as a reflector. Being only 4 LED's though it wouldn't be very wide so not look as good as other manufacturers. If someone pulls its off though I've be really interested in seeing how the finished article looks!
    Hi Naresh,
yeah, presumed that was the case - just hoping (like you) that someone had come up with easier solution
Not that keen (or skilled) to start chopping mine up, so might just get some LEDS to replace park light globes and run those as DRL's
    Cheers

Does anyone know if changing the headlamps of the Tig... When using a ballast... Ie: headlamps to factory connector underneath, then there are wires from the HID bulb to ballast, then ballast out to....??

I think all wires go to a single connector on the headlamp rear and the wiring to the ballast (for xenons) is internal to the headlamp.

On another note I've not had my eyelids painted yet as I'm waiting for the funds to get the bi-xenons and levellers fitted.

The Caractere front grill is here though and I'm still deciding on the colour scheme to go with my front end change. I'm going for a subtle look like your Avatar picture.

Oooooo interesting to see how your Tig turns out with those bi-xenons, eye lids and that yummy Caractere grill!

Guys, those of you have already fitted your eyelids did you use 3M tape or the glue that came in the packaging? I want to be able to go back to standard if I get bored with the look. I plan on having mine fitted by the end of this month as the Bi-xenon headlamps (fingers crossed!) go on in a couple of weeks.

I haven't got mine on yet too mate. I, too, wanna get my aftermarket headlamps fitted in first before I fit them on. I also don't want to permanently glue them on in case I get bored w the look later in the future. So I might use some good 3M double sided tape. Not sure if there's a better alternative. Hmmm

Don't go with the glue - I did and one of them flew off on the highway - I now have to get it repainted. I will be putting it back on with good double sided tape next time.

Thanks for the tip Captain, I'm glad I asked now. You were lucky to find it after it flying off!
