Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Agree with you all. I'm slowly getting used to the DSG. Found that I have to use my right foot a lot more than I expected, but that the DSG does seem to learn my habits a bit.

But, D mode can be incredibly sluggish in the situations descrobed by others. I've started using S mode when approaching roundabouts and give way signs, as D doesnt shift down enough. S mode is way better, but quite clunky with distinct rev changes when changing down, and sometimes a nasty clunk when it gets confused. If I slow down in S mode and then accelerate quickly again, it does a double clunk - sort of like it is lost between S1 and S2. Dont know if this is normal?

I've also tried tiptronic mode a few times, but 8 years of auto Forester has killed my senses for shift points, so it will take a bit of work to get manual gearchange skills back.

Still very happy though - the Tigs are a very comfy car and I reckon they go thru a roundabout better than my turbo Forester - or at least it feels more solid with less understeer. A lot slower coming out though, especially in D mode - for obvious reasons.

I also cant get over how little fuel it uses - very happy with that.

Finally got my iPhone playing music thru the MDI - need to let it connect to bluetooth first, then plug into MDI cable, then change media input on the car, then start the music on the iPhone. Strange process, but I sort of understand why - mainly because of the bluetooth I think. If I didnt connect it as a phone, I'm sure it would connect more easily as a music player. Also it has all the songs listed alphabetically - no album listing.

Sorry - that should all be for a different forum!

If you have 4motion it's probably the Haldex swapping out from 50/50 split to 10/90 split. I have the older 6 speed slushbox but can definitely feel another "change" at around 20kph that isn't actually a gear change.

I am going to test drive a Tiguan 132TSI Pacific this week. It is new and has the 7DSG. Pacific comes standard with PARK ASSIST 2, Comfort pack and a few other things that used to be options. $35,990 drive away. If you add leather, panoramic roof, metallic paint, 18" wheels, it still comes in at around $45k drive away.

You're right and the Pacific's have the DSG7 back again.

They moved to the automatic early in 2012 due to not having enough DSG's to put into cars.

It was a stop gap measure put in place till they got stock of DSG's again.

They were great price wise and well specced as they needed to keep selling cars and knew that people would take the DSG version over the automatic. I looked at them but decided against it as parts for an auto will become difficult to source as they are slowly being phased out

I wouldn't be in the least worried about parts, the DSG hasn't even got to NA yet and so they're all the 6 speed auto.

Whilst not a Tig owner we do have the DSG in our Van , maybe its just me but I am not that convinced this technology is so good . I have read so many reports on VW forums about DSG likes and dislikes and will add my concerns . first descending down hills it "holds" the low gear and the result is the engine is revving its tits off , flick across to manual model and upshift is just an inconvenience . Trying to over take someone can result in not enough power at the most critical moment again shift to manual . Last the hesitation of the down change when approaching intersections and roundabouts resulting in a momentary lack of response . As I said is it just me or do others think that if the answer to shift and gear selection is fixed by changing to manual mode then the DSG is a failure . Our previous auto the Tiptronic never displayed this problem at all power was there instantly and never ever needed to change to manual . VW are to be commended in building their cars to be economical but not at the expense of driver confidence , and please don't tell me I should adapt to this technology VW should stick to a one ratio speed auto like the good old days not 3 types of gear box in one its just asking for trouble IMO.

Would have to say I'm VERY happy I purposely avoided the DSG box and agree that the 6 speed "tiptronic" as it was known does a great job for me and the economy is still excellent.
