  • Leather seats

My dealer is too busy to talk to me and has no tiguan brochures at the moment so I thought I would ask here. I am wanting to order the 2012 103TDI with leather seats. What is included with the leather pack? Does it have electronic adjustable seats on both or just the drivers side? Does it have a key that memorises the seat setting?

Finally, I have never owned leather seats and I am wondering if they are too hot for teh australian climate. Any thoughts?

    Cheers!

It is just the drivers side that has the electronic controls.
I believe this was also meant to allow for the passenger folding mirror on reverse but not sure if that works for Australian delivered vehicles.

This is a 4k option on the Tiguan.

    Apparently no memory settings.

Alas, no memory for settings for the driver's seat in the MY12 Tiguan. I've got the black leather package. It's unfortunate that the seats only have heating. I think a cooling option would have been even more suited to Australia. Cold leather doesn't bother me as much as seats that have been in the sun or otherwise in a hot car for a while.

        I Agree wholeheartedly!!!!!

If they had a cooling function, then they would be awesome. At present, I hate the leather on any day over 25 degrees!

But as covered in other threads, some advantages of the leather seats are the versatility. The front passengers seat can fold flat for more long storage space. The standard seats do not allow for this.

My VR6 has black leather (in a black car) and I don't have any issues with it, even in the peak of summer. Mind you I don't have short shorts or drive in my Tony Abbots

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Last time I checked, they only put a cooling seat in a high end Merc/BMW/Lexus, even that's an option. I don't think VW will include that anytime soon. A full grain genuine leather should offer a good degree of breathability. If you find your leather seat stuffy, you may need some deep cleaning to clear up the pores.

I find VW air-con is more than sufficient in hot summer day. I haven't put a tinted on my car yet (Yes, I'm lazy) and the system cope really well.

Well today's 36deg and tomorrow's 37deg will test the seats for comfort. I prefer just having airflow as opposed to air conditioning, but today I'll cave in, I think.

Yes that will be ideal for every seat, cool bottom FTW!! I guess you can always introduce your own airflow . Let us know how you go in that kind of temperature.

Find another dealer? You are the customer aren't you?

Wife has leather in her Outback - neither my kids or myself are fans.

Her previous car was a Mondeo & it had leather bolsters & alcantra(?) down the centre & was much nicer & very durable.

I have cloth in my car & it's comfy but looks like crap because of the velcro on my workpants pockets.

Thanks all for your responses. In built cooling sounds like a fantastic option but alas for someone purchasing in the next month (not in another 50 years) I will go with leather. As I said, I've never had leather seats but i love the thought of how posh they look in the tiggy - will feel like a million driving around in that! Just hoping that it wont burn legs if you get into it in just shorts on a hot Queensland summer day

You don't say if you are looking at corn silk beige or grey leather. I have the light leather option and they also have seat trays on the backs. They are also the 'sports' option in the leather seats, which means you sit in the seats a bit more securely. I have found them very good, in 20,000 km so far and on 200km round trips. Not as good leather as the old 960 Volvo but adequate. The lack of memory is a cheap oversight on VW's part, it is a very useful add on with two drivers. The passenger seat not only folds flat but has a tray underneath as it is not electric. Drivers seat also has electric lumbar support. I was initially concerned about the possibility of marking on light leather but this has not been an issue. Perhaps with a tribe of kids it would be a problem. My car has tinting but even without that I would not have worried too much with sun scalding. The roof shape, windows and very good air con get the car cool in a short time span.

Thanks Dartiguan. I am looking at the dark leather option and my concern is that it will be too hot in summer to sit on. Is this an problem?

Quite frankly they do get hot under the sun!

But not scalding ... to need a towel over it.

Bearable and only uncomfortable for a minute or so on say a hot day under direct sunlight!

I haven't had an issue with direct sunlight on the seats yet. Earlier this week we had temperatures in the high 30s. Getting into the car at midday this week was only hot until the windows were wound down. The seats were fine. So far no heat issues with black leather. I'm considering those wooden bead covers, though, if I can find one that won't wear out the leather much.
