Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My Tiguan APR tuned Stage 1

    Hi All,

Anyone else here have a normal 6 speed non DSG 125kw Tig that has been tuned by APR? I have to say it only feels slightly more powerful, not worth $1495!! Pretty disapointing really,, doesnt feel more then over 100nm gained and Power increase of 64kw... I am wondering if a free flowing exhaust would make a difference?

    Cheers

    Mike

You should your car back, when I had my tune done by revo I was disappointed of the gains when I went for service they told me n75 valve was broken and when I got my car back it flew compared to stock

I have APR on my 6 speed manual (used to be 125TSI)

Something must be wrong with your car or the ecu remap if you cannot notice the huge difference between stock and stage 1.
It litterally feels like a whole new car from 125 to 189.

Okay will do, there is definatly a noticable difference but not huge difference... one thing also, when the car was stock I remember going on a gravel road once and something underneath made an aweful sound when I turned a corner hard, then from then on everytime I floored it, the car would chirp the front wheels, it was like it disengaged the AWD. I had it serviced and then it didnt happen from then on...

Might pay to also check that the map has been engaged as they may have loaded it on but have selected the stock setting.
Also, it helps to have 98RON fuel as mine performs much better on that.

You should be able to feel it push you back into the seat when you floor it.

I did a stopwatch test to 100km/hr, I got about 7.6 secs, maybe that is normal then, I might be to demanding.... I know the exhaust is pretty restrictive though, I have taken the resonator out but that back exhaust is pretty restrictive.

Can you please get a video of the exhaust note with no resonator for me?
I would like to compare it to my muffler delete.

A stock 125TSI should do the 0-100 in around 8.5 seconds i believe.

Do you have a video of your Muffler Delete? I can do a video, it has slight more base, if I floor it I get a pop between 1st and 2nd gear

Here is the video i took.
Mine has a lot deeper note and pops on upshift and downshift for the first 3 gears when under load.

Will try to host it elsewhere for you later.
You have to close the advert (button down the bottom) to show the video i believe.

Muffler delete only made any real difference to the audio side of things.
It did remove about 8kg of mufffler though so that helps in performnance a little bit.

Just to throw another 2-bobs worth in:
When i had my tune done, i guess i was mildly disappointed. I put it down to that same phenomenon as when everyone tells you how great a movie is: "You've gotta see this movie, it's the best, funniest, scariest, heart warmingest movie EVER MADE!!!!!" Then you go see it & it was ok, pretty good, but would have been heaps better if you didn't have that preconception.
Anyways, power is up by a third, torque is UP by more. The way i enjoy driving with the APR tune is to roll the power on using a progressive approach on the accelerator, rather than just flooring it. Keep the rev's over say 2300 & roll 'em on from there...
