When is the best Time to buy a new Tig?

Hey guys,

I have used the search but haven't found anything usefull..

My wife and I want to buy/order a Tig before the end of the year. We were looking at the base 125TSI, I was aware that there is a facelift coming with the MY12, but the sales person told me that there would be all new Tigs coming in september. He also said that there wouldn't be any 125/147 but something like 118/139 (both petrol) available. He couldn't confirm anymore details, just that they possibly both run the same engine (GTI).

I googled, but couldn't find any details on that.

I am worried now that I would end up with an 'old' model if I order now but on the otherside I am worried that we end up with the first gen of a new range that hastn't been tested/improved yet...

I hope someone can help me here with making a decision....

The MY12 Tiguan is not a "new" model; it is merely a facelift of the current Tiguans. There should be nothing to worry about. It has a new model number, but the car is esentially the same.

The "new" MY12 Tiguans will have a 1.4 engine in the 118TSI (FWD only), and a 2.0 engine in the 132TSI and 155TSI (both AWD). The 132TSI and 155TSI engines are not new, they are the same EA888 engine found in the 125TSI and 147TSI, just slightly "tweaked" to deliver a little bit of extra power to differentiate between the old and new Tiguans.

In fact the 125TSI, 147TSI, 132TSI and 155TSI all have identical engines, its the ECU tuning that makes the difference.

Specifications would be similar to the current models.

I have been offered a 155TSI in silver bith some extras for pickup end October .....

I've ordered last months, MY12 model and couldn't care less that there would be a new model beyond 2012. There will always be a new model coming in the years after you bought yours.
When you see a new look Tiguan released in Europe, you can add 1 year or more before we get it in here. So, get it now and enjoy the ride.

Not necessarily during sales as you may not necessarily get the best deal as dealers have more buyers than they can poke a stick at.

Basically, if you have the money, any dealer will do you a deal...any time.

Make sure you get all the discounts you can get.

Make sure you specify the build year and compliance year (add the month of both is necessary) as a mandatory condition (as well as anything else you MUST have). If one dealer will not let you set this as a condition of sale, then find one that will.

Don't necessarily go for the dealer that is closest to you. When the dealer knows this, they may not offer you the best deal.

Be flexible on colour and some extras. This way, you might be able to get 99% of what you want without waiting many months or even a year only to find you no longer have the model you wanted.

Don't worry too much about the new model being "new". There is not necessarily that much difference. The manufacturers would like you to think so.

Where did you get all these infos from? On the VW-Australia website they still sell the 125/147/103 Tigs?

We were going for AWD anyway so we have the choice between 132TSI and 155TSI, might be worth checking out the price difference maybe a 132TSI with APR/Oettinger/Superchips(?) ends up to be a cheaper option. Guess that also depends on the extras we want...

Run out deals means that it takes less room to negotiate to a 'reasonable' price as the free dealer delivery, CTP and stamp duty means you are paying base cost + options. Others have to negotiate from a 'higher' on road price. However, with hard work, anyone can get roughly the same price with some negotiating.

Do your research. Know how much you want to pay, how much the options are and what you really must want. Anything not negotiated on the day will mean you won't get it or pay more for it. If the car is 'on the floor, in stock' and you are happy with it's option list and colour, you will generally be able to get a better price than for a model that's not in stock (which someone else would buy/pay more for). In general, aim for base price, at least a few accessories or options thrown in, make sure you ask for mats, tint, rear sensors, do your own paint protection (I recommend nanolex if you don't mind the work) and you can seal you interior with nanolex leather/textile sealant as well. Chipped/ECU after market tunes deliver heck of a lot of performance but voids your warranty. Be warned. Decide if you want to negotiate for extended warranty. Good luck!

If you have a trade in, work on changeover price or else they'll get you back on the trade. For the convenience of a trade-in vs private sale, you always sacrifice >1-2k

This is a common misconception. Adding a performance modification will not void your warranty. Only a warranty claim directly related to an issue that can be traced to a modification will be denied. Your warranty is still intact. I certainly have had warranty repairs done and I have APR Stg2 (See performance mod thread). Going for an APR tune means that the VW dealer will not be able to tell its there either .....

I got my info from the horse's (or rather horse trader's) mouth. VW Australia will not be saying anything until they have cleared most of the "old" stock. In fact the release of the "new" Tiguan has been delayed by 2+months because they need to clear stock in the country .... typical. MY12 Tigs are arriving into Australia already, just being stored till release date.

125/132 + tune will be the most cost effective from a performance perspective. That said, I like the extras that is standard in the 147/155 and if it came in a manual would be the 1 to buy. I was toying with the idea of getting a 155TSI, but can't live with the DSG. I now have had a DSG MV for 9 months and the DSG is rubbish ....

Sharkie, you forgot to mention TDI engines. The TDI is not being discontinued in AU as some could interpret it. It's not sure if we get 125TDI (my guess is, probably not, but I may be wrong).

Abt-motorsports has realeased their ECU-figures for the stage I upgrade. The strange thing is that the 118TSI and 132TSI will be both pushed to produce 154kw, while the 155TSI is quotet to get 184kw with stage I? That's a difference of 30kw!!!!!

Is this just clever marketing? I mean they all run the AE888 and should all be capable of producing the same amount of kw, like previously seen with the 125TSI/147TSI???

I believe its just a mistake on their part. 132&155TSIs are identical and will produce the same power. I wouldn't go down ABT road either. Speak to APR to get their view instead.

118TSI is the 1.4 Twin charge engine, and +-154kw chipped is about right.
