  • Auto headlights almost always on in daylight

My wife is annoyed that when our headlights are set to Auto the headlights seem to illuminate even on sunny days. Is there a setting to change the tendency for the headlights to come on during the day?

How old's your Tig, cause maybe a faulty sensor!

I'd recommend that you just complain about them and get it replaced under warranty.

No point playing silly buggers with the settings which require VCDS (assuming it's do-able).

Ta - it's only a couple of months old, a long way from first service.

Maybe give the sensor (located where the rear vision mirror joins the windscreen) a wipe.

I thought there was also a way to calibrate the autowipers/lights from inside the car.

Thanks, I'll try that. I figured that was where the wiper sensor was, but didn't realise it might also control the lights! The car is dirty, having been driven in the country lots in the last couple of weeks and no time for a wash.

Can't really blame the technology, if it's mistaken a cake of mud on top, as pitch black!

mine's the opposite - don't come on until it's dark. Although driving from night into daytime, they will stay on for ages in bright early morning sunlight. I wonder if it's just a dodgy system - other cars I've had with auto headlights seem to work much better than the Tigs.

                +1 to aussietig comment.

wash the car, test run over a day or so, then provide the feedback on what the experience of the technology is. PLUS, one could presume from the comment made re: dirt on car.. that the prior its unwashed stage, the auto light function provided the service ie: no negative feedback given.

in sumamry : remedy to issues is a bucket of soapy water and some car TLC. good luck.

Also keep in mind that they probably reduced the sensitivity to save your headlight bulbs, otherwise they might flash on and off every time you hit a shadow like some other car's which will kill your bulb very quickly.

I have a similar experience smithcorp. I have bi Xenons and the auto light function seems to be on more than necessary (and my car is clean and 7 weeks old) I find it irritating that there is no indication in the car that the lights are on, it is usually just reflections on the car in front that indicate they are on. Simply for convenience though I leave the setting on auto.

I always notice that they're on based on either the steering wheel buttons being lit up or the little red beam light above your head.

Are you CERTAIN they're on and it's not just the sun reflecting from your lenses onto the cars in front ? because all the interior lighting comes on as well as I always notice that (dash lights etc).

The car's not that filthy and the issue has been noticed from new and even when really clean. I gave the sensor area a clean last night (though it wasn't noticeably dirty) and will check with my wife as to whether it was still an issue on the kids' school run this morning. The car is getting switched on in full daylight, so the headlights shouldn't be coming on by default.

Just checked again today, when I noticed a reflection in the car in front of me from my lights. The internal lights were not activated (I hate that red and blue scheme, is there any way to change it!!) I got out and my low beam was active in cloudy overcast weather. If I go into a gloomier environment say a tunnel or my garage then the red interior lights come on. Short answer, just because the red interior lights are on does not mean your lights are not on.

Well, maybe it's different with the newer Tigs but certainly in mine it's "all or nothing" when in auto setting. So, either yours have a newer dual level system which can do just the headlights OR both the headlights and the interior dash lights etc OR you have your DRLs activated OR somethings wonky in your system. I stand ready to be corrected but I've never heard of a dual level "auto" light system, has anybody else ?

                              Cheers
