No ... I reckon it must be low beam DRLs then.

If older Tig are like the Mk5 Golfs (which I believe to be the case with the red & blue lighting mentioned) then definitely both should light up.

The car is getting switched on in full daylight, so the headlights shouldn't be coming on by default.
What does your dealer say, or maybe a quick read through the owner's manual could shed some more light on it?

I looked in the 'Manuel' and what did I find? (Purely as a last resort Transporter) p106
Daytime Running Lights on Auto "With Daytime running lights, the dipped beam headlights or side lights and the number plate are lit up.
The daytime running lights are switched on when the ignition is switched on if the light switch is in position 0 or AUTO. In some model versions, indicator lamp )*( in the light switch indicates that the daytime headlights are switched on.
If the light switch is in position AUTO a light sensor will switch the lighting in the instruments and switches on and off automatically.
The daytime headlights cannot be switched on or off manually" [Like my dear old Volvo]

This is why I was confused about the lights as the only indication in my cabin usually, was the indicator on the switch marked )*( and I would have sunnies on, as I find them easier to drive long distance with.
There are still things to learn. My car is a TDI DSG103 Manufactured Nov 2010 delivered March 2011.

          That's bull****!

You can turn them (DRLs) on or off via VCDS.

Strange how yours was enabled on Day 1, if bought brand new and delivered by a dealer.

Normally not enabled in Aus, I thought.

Once they have been activated via VCDS you can still turn the Daytime headlights on/off manually by doing the indicator stalk and high beam action as indicated in the manual.

I actually now have a tick box for them within the MFD lighting menu:

Will be a party trick I'll perform, when a copper tries to have a go at my DRL fogs!

I start my car in the garage every day - lights come on then, and generally stay on till I get to work - where I park undercover. Cycle repeats on the way home.
Try switching them off manually, and then back on to see if it is the sensor or the system setup. (I read that they come on over 140km/h automatically. Tell your wife to stop being such a leadfoot)

And another thing, I don't have the option in my MFD, yet I seem to have DRL. Do I have to turn this on using the VCDS approach to see the option in the MFD? My car is Nov 2010 build sold mch 2011. Anyone else have this option in similar aged cars?

If yours is also a white MFD, then answer should be Yes!

I can only speak for Tigs with xenons.

Coding not the same for normal headlights.

I have a non xenon MY11 147 Tig and have the DRL option in my MFD Options.

Only after some VCDS coding however.

I suggest you PM Supervisa for his Module 9 long coding and compare to yours (if you remembered to take a copy of it)!

Best way to do it, since you both are non-xenon.

But double check the version of the control module to be sure.
