  • Tiguan 15,000km service cost and option

    Hello guys

My Tiguan is about due for it's first 15,000km service, most dealers in Sydney charges between $410-$430. I think that is alot of $$$ for oil and oil change.

How much did you paid for your 15,000km service at the dealers.
Did anyone here took their car to a outside (non dealer) workshop for the service in Sydney ?

Is this an issue? I was under the impression that it was against the law for VWA to deny a warrenty claim based on servicing your car outside a dealership. As long as it is a certified/registered mechanic.

Can anyone confirm this as I was going to do the same thing and get all my servicing done locally by jmac and only visit the dealership for warranty claims.

You're right, they can't refuse to repair your car under the warranty based only on that you didn't get your car serviced by the dealer. The servicing has to be done to VW factory specs, that's all.

think you misunderstood what they were saying.

They only take their car back to the dealer for warranty repair work... servicing is done elsewhere.

I do the same and have never had any issues getting warranty work done.

                Thanks to all who replied.

Sounded like the TDI is cheaper to service to petrol version.

No, it shouldn't be. The diesel fuel filter cost a bit (due every 60,000km but I would recommend replacing it sooner). Also the TDI has to use VW507.00 oil and TSI versions could be cheated with cheaper oils (something to watch out for). Using not VW recommended oil in TSI may affect antipollution devices and have some driveability affects too, so any saving there could be a short lived at least for the owner of the TSI. Of course in the TSI; the sparkplugs will be needed @60,000km, so that could level the field a bit.

I just dropped my 210 (125) TSI off at Prestige and Performance and they quoted $270 for the 15,000k/1 year service.

Anything more than $300 is a bit of a rip-off.
