Nah ... just used my photographic memory of the reference point I used to take the first pic, to take the second!

Not bad hey (if I say so myself)?

But if you look carefully ... the second pic was taken slightly closer than the first.

Heh - but at 100%, surely you'd get reflections and also reduced eye sensitivity to the dark! Or do you have them turning off when the doors are closed and you're driving?

Nah ... they are permanently on all day & night once car is switched on!
So I can also provide a testimonial on their life span, later on!

Whilst they're super bright, they're not that bright to effect vision of the outside (at night time) or visible to a copper looking from the outside.

I think largely due to the fact that the light unit is actually tucked very far inside the footwell area (at least in the Tig anyway).

BTW, have tested this morning ... and they definitely do dim when I fiddled with the setting in the MFD.

Tried to buy one of those upgraded LED units from the US Ebay seller linked above. he said

"you need to add electricity load pull wires in your car to use it, or it will diplay OBC errors. ". Anyone know if that's the case?

Yes that's the same advice I received.

BTW they're not US, but Taiwan.

Unfortunately with the MY11 Tigs, that's what's required! But doesn't seem to be a problem with other VW models and earlier years.

This does explain why no error free LED I've tried to date works on my licence plate!

Have had to resort to turning off load management in VCDS to get rid of the yellow light on MFD.

Here's the comparison of the vanities:

                Existing 5000K LEDs bulb

R Dash LED (complete casing unit)

LED bulb vs R Dash LED

It's a shame their licence plate units aren't plug and play for my Tig.

Can anyone without a sunroof confirm whether their front reading/map light looks like this?

In other words, there's essentially enough room to fit all three LEDs as offered by R-Dash.

If so, then is yours a Gen I or Gen II Tig?

Bought this and it definitely doesn't fit Tigs with sunroof (despite assurances from the seller beforehand).

These are definitely the best LEDs on the market. Just look at pics I've posted throughout this thread and below.

They are advertised to fit the following cars (but obviously not ones with sunroofs):

                  Golf 5 2004~2008
                  Golf 6 2009~
                  Golf Plus 2005~
                  Jetta 2006~
                  Passat 2006~
                  Passat CC 2009~
                  Scirocco 2009~
                  Sharan 2011~
                  Tiguan 2008~
                  Touran 2011~

VW Scirocco Sharan Tiguan Touran white Front Seat Reading Light no error free | eBay

If they do fit your car, then PM me if you're interested in buying these off me?

What you get is exactly what's in the second picture (an entire swap & replace LED & casing unit).

This is the signature feature of this brand & why their hefty price tag.

For those interested ... R-Dash are currently working on this problem with Tig's licence plate LED.

Will be guinea pigging this, once they're ready.

                    Aussie

I might be about to add the list of dumb questions here, so I apologise in advance.

I have read and reread some of the posts, and it is totally clear: Are the lights a simple swap, plug in and all is ok??

One of the threads talks about having to '...add electricity load wires ...........'

If it is a simple remove swap plug in and use, it is within my limited skill sets.

                    Cheers

Almost most of their (R-Dash) interior light units are plug n play, except for the licence plate light.

For some strange reason, all error-free LEDs (and I've tried a few) will throw a fault code on the Tig.

But have not seen their disclaimer/warning on other VW models.

Anyhow they're still trying to fix this problem (but more importantly make it plug n play) and it's currently still a WIP.

I need to replace my license plate lights as both plastic covers are cracked and one of the globes is gone (don't ask me how this happened I'm still scratching my head). Anyway I'd noticed the cracked plastic a while ago and now there's a warning light that comes on occasionally on the dash as one of the lights doesn't work. I pulled them off and the lamps are "floating" around inside the rear tailgate so it's likely shorting out.
Replacement units from VW are $24.25 each, but if I can go with the LED's that would be great.
Has anyone got "complete" LED units or have people just got the replacement LED "bulbs"?
Obviously I need to replace the lense as well as the bulb so would appreciate some feedback.

I just got rpelacement bulbs for the rego plate area.
Not sure how you go about getting the plastic covers other than through VW or maybe an online vw parts shop.

Might be best to find out hte part number form a dealership of if you can read it off the plastic cover so we cna help out a bit more.

Finally getting around to ordering some license plate LEDs, however trying to figure out whether to go for the (claimed) error free ones or just the cheaper standard LEDs and then fix the bulb out warning in VCDS.

Part of the reason for the upgrade is due to my lenses being cracked - hence the need for the full light/housing and not just a festoon bulbs.

Anything else to consider? Lumen output for the more expensive error free ones is higher but I think either will be better than the standard globes.

Thoughts anyone before I hit the button?

If you're talking just replacement festoon bulbs, cheaper ones will burn out quicker and throw out an error.

But so will expensive ones eventually.

Basically the circuitry fries up after prolonged use.

Unfortunately R-Dash didn't end up developing a complete replacement LED & casing for MY11+ Tigs.

So no LED long term solution.

Anyhow I wouldn't spend more than $10 for a set.

Just buy a few more sets, once you're happy with the set you have.
