I find the reversing lights on my Tiguan (MY2011) inadequate for use in my driveway area when I have to use them. I do not have a reversing camera setup and wondered if anyone had upgraded/changed their lights or had any suggestions to increase the illumination. (No I don't want to fit an LED bar
) this is a serious issue for us I would like to find a solution to as rear vision is not the best in this car. I had thought of higher watt globes but am concerned about cooking wires, perhaps LED globes might provide a solution but I am not sure what might be available.

There are some LED working lights available from NARVA of the reasonable size. That's what l would fit.

Hi I had the same problem with my Audi A4, was warned against changing voltage in the rear lights so used to put the rear fog on as some extra light. Only had my Tig a week so cant comment on how good or bad it is. I have sensors but I have a real angled driveway so they scream the whole way anyhow. Good luck and I will see if anyone has a master planMY19 162 Highline R-Line, SVP, Pano roof, Pure White

Yes, you have to drop the lower rear bumper to access the special long-life globes. think it mentions it in the manual.Originally posted by Dartiguan View PostJust read on a long thread from Team V that you have to remove the bumper bar to replace globes!!!! on the Tig. Is this true?
I've always thought about wiring in a $5 50W downlight as an additional reversing light, the ones with the clear cover. Silicon it under the bumper, maybe a solid state relay off the powerTDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km

I didn't actually do it.Originally posted by Dartiguan View PostJust read on a long thread from Team V that you have to remove the bumper bar to replace globes!!!! on the Tig. Is this true?
It just states in the manual that you have to do it if the lights blow however they are ultra long lasting and shouldn't go.
I have LED rear licence plate lights and it lights up the area well enough for what i need.

I just fitted LEDs to number plate light too, and yes they are very bright compared to the standard bulbs. I expect they will give more light when reversing, just hope they don't blind the reversing camera. They look great though and no error messages. Also fitted the front parkers, look great as well - pitty they aren't in a better position though - would like to change them over for the indicator position, but that would be too much hassel to change wiring.Originally posted by team_v View PostI have LED rear licence plate lights and it lights up the area well enough for what i need.

This is the difference with mine.

Will try to get a shot of how it illuminates the ground.

Just checked James, and the number plate light LED's make no difference to rear vision sorry. I then got out and had a look, and the reversing lights have a focussed beam that spreads out about 1.5m behind the car. But I use the rvc (an upgraded Alpine camera that works incredibly well in the dark) and I can't remember actually using the rear view mirror for reversing - other than tonight, which seemed fine though. Have you checked to make sure you haven't got a blown "long-life" bulb?Originally posted by JamesTiguan147 View PostClip, got pictures of those 2 light upgrades. I have a pretty solid tint to match the paint and could do with a little extra light when reversing. Cheers

I have found this site in my search for LED lights for the TIGUAN and it looks quite good. It actually lists the lights for the Tiguan and gives LED options Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories

FWIW, highly recommend these as potentially lighting up the rear:
VW Passat Golf 6 Polo error free LED license plate lamp | eBay
These are super bright and without any blue tinge. So are probably 5000K or closest to pure white.
Here's one I bought off them, but for the boot (i.e. whole complete unit swapover):

Other pics taken from their store:

Nothing comes close to these! And trust me ... I've tried a few already.
But just need to double check with them whether their current listing will fit a Tiguan (as not listed).
They might just be out of stock at the moment.Last edited by aussietig; 23-04-2011, 11:32 PM.MY11 Tiguan 147TSI (SOLD)
