Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Ever since i've gotten the Superchips tune I haven't been disappointed, my acceleration is on par on a rolling start with a RX8 (they are slow). The acceleration from start is fast and will be a HUGE improvement over stock. I'm not too sure about the 125TSI bogging down, I babied the car till 15,000 and got the tune around 30,000 all the way to 56k now. I have no complaints
I think the bogging may be a DSG thing. Not sure if anyone else has any comments on this??? Just is sluggish until about 2,000 revs when driven in "D".

If you baby the throttle, then yes it's sluggish under 2k RPM.

If you mash the throttle on the other hand, you'll be surprised how hard it pulls in D mode.

Can't wait to chip my Tig to see how hard it pulls.

I just picked up a demo with under 6k km on it few days ago. Since Christmas coming, I suspect APR might do special for the stage 1. Do u guys wait till clock up more kms before the tune or would it be fine?

In my humble experience, i reckon 6K will be fine. I probably wouldn't do it to a brand newy, though... Just in case you were tempted to utilize the goodness during the break-in period!

            Congrats on the purchase fung!

In my opinion you should just do it. I know they're different cars/engines but I did mine at about 5,000 and don't regret it one bit! I've had zero problems since and if I were to do it again, I would do it within the first 2,000. Just remember to warm the engine (oil in 80's) and transmission. Once the car is nice and warm you let it f*@kin RIP!!!!!

In saying that, I just put down a deposit on a new 132TSI Tig (unfortunately a 6 month wait) and will be remapping within 2,000km for sure! Tunes are just too much fun - Life is just waaaay too short mate, enjoy it while you're here, because we're not here for long!!!

I guess suspension tuning is categorised as performance tuning...

              .
Can someone explain how an anti-lift kit works?
I guess most 'settings', whether factory or after-market on vehicles are a bit of a compromise. Was wondering what the down-side would be on the anti-lift? Would it cause premature tyre wear? Or other negative characteristics? The front-end lift & dive under acceleration & braking are an issue i would consider trying to rectify, without going for stiffer/shorter springs.

              Thanks in advance.
              Matt.

                    Hi everyone!

I am a soon-to-be V-Dubber with a Candy White TDI. This topic of APR vs other chips is really interesting to read, given that I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever modifying cars.... N after reading this forum or the last few weeks has given me the Mod Bug!!!

I was told that a cheaper alternative is to flash the in-car software w GAIC. what are your takes in this? Thanks and much appreciated for any feedback n advise.

Went and saw my local APR dealer today.... After some initial investigations it looks like my ECU is going to have to come out and possibly get sent off to have the Stage 1 upgrade. They said that security upgrades which came in midway through 2010 stops them accessing the ECU via the serial port and means the ECU has to come out to be upgraded.

Also had a good chat about performance of the 7 speed DSG off the line and they said the APR stage 1 upgrade won't solve the problem of getting bogged down - it's more a combination of turbo lag and DSG mapping. Also from mid 2011 on the 7 speed DSG has a more agressive mapping in sport mode which makes it painful to drive around the city. Conclusion was that the solution lies more in getting the DSG remapped or possibly tricking it to be more agressive by installing a sprint booster.

I was hoping to get a trial on the APR to see if this would help with the lag when pulling out into moving traffic... but it's turned out to be not as simple as I'd first hoped.

Yes. And this is a problem for the Superchips Bluefin unit too (they emailed me saying that they don't have a solution yet). Which confirms what others have reported in the past.

Hmmf. Would have been nice if they'd told me that up-front I had suspected that mine was unable to be direct-port tuned (even told them that) however they assured me that they thought the Superchips tune via BlueFin device should work. Got it yesterday and after multiple attempts with "error reading PCM" message, am still awaiting response from their UK H.O as to whether it's not doable. It appears their server is not letting me connect to even try and download what info the unit got from my Tig, which raises the frustration level even more! Looks like I will be taking them up on their "money-back" guarantee and trying to find someone I am confident enough in to let do bench tune (not keen on just anyone digging around to get at ECU, having gotten the info from APR as to what's involved in even getting at it!) Very reluctant to expose it to outside, as given humidity and inevitable corrosive hand juices that will end up on it, I suspect could cause dramas down the track. Anyone know of a workshop with enclosed, dust-proof, de-humidified workshop and technicians that use white cotton gloves? Bit overboard I know, but electronics are a nightmare when they start going wrong

Tiggy1 as there are a number of us in the same boat with a 2011 Tig wanting to get remapped, can you let us know what is involved in doing a bench tune. I am gathering ECU has to come out but not sure what this involves. I had been told by my local APR dealer (after they couldn't connect) that they may need to send it off to APR in Qld. I'm not that keen to have my ECU out of my car let alone shipped interstate and back.
