Same here. I think it’s great tech, impressive and has its uses, but reverse parking is a no brainer for my wife & I

So until that becomes an issue, I'll be doing it manually... or until old age kicks in (queue bad eyes, back kink, etc, etc)

parkassist is something that was not on my list of MUST HAVEs dealer options but i had opted to take a sooner delivery of My11 pepgrey which came with.

besides the benefits already discussed prior, park assist will also

      - keep your expensive alloy rims scratch free from kerb pinches as the comp is faultless. just trust it.

      - offer a better resell value against other tigs w/o , once the day comes to part with

      - RH parallel park does not come natural to OZ left hand drivers - comp will compensate this for you everytime all the time, the firs time.

      amen.

I forgot about this. I've got scratches on mine, all done when NOT using Park Assist and pulling in to those sloping gutters that have a square storm water culvet that you can't see until you scrape up beside when reversing! Never happened with the Park Assit though.

I used it at very tight spot with maybe 0.5m front and 0.4m back once. Even the car slightly stick out a bit, it was a pretty damn good effort considering I would never have tried that spot manually. Also it surprised me how fast it was reversing. Fun to show someone who doesn't know if you car have such feature before. I told my workmate it was "magic" with my mind once and she somehow smei-believe it.

just to confirm does it also do reverse parking or just parallel parking?.

all of the videos i've seen only have featured the car doing parallel parking.

            thanks

No, it only does reverse parallel parking. It will not do angle reverse parking or any other, if that's what you mean aoki.

Are you saying you retro-fitted park assist ? That is the full auto-park (hands off) parking system ? If so I'm sure there are MANY Tig owners who would like to know how to do that !! (Mine has it factory fitted so I don't need it but it's not even "available" in some countries).

                    Cheers

If the current Tiguan does not do reverse right-angle parking, perhaps the facelifted version will. I expect the revised park assist to be similar to the Audi Q3's, which is described as follows:

"No less than five systems are ready to help drivers park. The park assist system does the steering for drivers while the vehicle is reversing into right-angle or parallel spaces; if necessary, it will execute several steering steps. Its twelve ultrasonic sensors detect obstacles such as concrete pillars, even if they are off to the vehicle’s side. The assistant’s software memorizes the obstacles’ locations and alerts the driver to them before the parking space is vacated."

Yes BUT that's the optical parking system NOT the "park-assist" that's being talked about here. What was being discussed here is the system that uses the same sensors (well the front outside ones anyway) and then automatically PARKS the Tiguan for you while you have your hands OFF the steering wheel. Check this out to see what I mean YouTube - Self parking Volkswagen Tiguan

                          Cheers

Sorry, I can't get your video to play and I'd only looked at the pics which just showed the display in the stereo screen so I thought that was all you'd done. I'm sure that there's a lot of members who'd be interested in a full DIY on this, even if it's just a basic description of how you did it !! Well done I say !!
