To those wanting to remove their interior light it's pretty simple
1. Gently unclip the sun glass holder by pulling it backwards and down at the same time. You will see 2 black torx screws do not remove these. They hold the whole frame to the roof. The removal of this part is optional but it helps when removing the vent panel described below.
2. Immediately in front of where the sunglasses holder was, is a 5cm wide vent panel, carefully press down from inside at the centre of the panel till it unclips. The panel will then fold down and allow you to unhinge it from the frame. For more info on this part's removal check your owners manual for manual closing of the sunroof should there be an electrical failure.
3. You will then see 2 silver colored T20 torx screws. Undo these and then gently unclip and pull back the remaing section of the interior light and undo the power cable to it.
4. You will then have access to the 2 globes from the top.
I haVe taken photos of the exercise but find it incredibly difficult to post them on the forum
Hope this helps
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this reply. This will be a task for me to do next week, as I have the LED's waiting
No problems while you are at it can you confirm the number of wires going into the plug 4 or 5? Still looking for an old plug from a golf or jetta V to salvage a fishplate to connect the fifth wire

How do you remove the vanity and centre dome light covers? Does the entire unit come out or just he clear platic bit? As ive ben prodding at it but dont want to pray to hard just in ca i damage the roof liner.
Read previous page where I have written up a set of instructions how to remove the entire unit. You cannot access the bulbs by only removing the clear plastic cover. Do not attempt to do this as this part will crack easily and cannot be replaced without buying the whole sub assembly with the switches etc

I read those instructions. But the question i asked relates to the vanity lights not the reading lights.you know the ones under the sun visor and the main dome roof light.
Sorry don't have these in my Tiguan i think it only std on the 147/155 or those that have the comfort pack which I don't have. Is there anything in the owner's manual. My 2008 manual has nothing, my guess it has a spring or clip and you will have to gently wedge it out. Maybe pay the dealer a visit as ask him how to replace a bulb as one of your's is blown

Yes ... you flick the whole vanity light unit out with a small screwdriver (either the RHS or LHS of the unit).
Trick is to go in deep and more perpendicular to roofline first, before pushing the end of screwdriver towards the roofliner to get the angle to flick it out.
However you just got to work out which side is actually the end without the connector.
Obviously don't try and flick out the side with the wires.

Only the large lights directly between front & rear passenger doors on the sides of the roofline are held on by a v-shaped clip on one end.
Now they are a real b!tch to unclip.
Definitely need two small screwdrivers to do the job!
One to push the whole unit back and hold it in that position, while the other is then used to try and flick the clip out of position.
However ... this only applies to those who have a sunroof and have 2 dome lights on the sides (instead of in the centre).
I unfortunately dont have a sunroof so will need to figure out which globes to use that will match the front rdash ones that i'll be ordering shortly.
Anyay final question, i was wondering which globes are interchangeable? For example apparently the glove box and footwells are interchangeable. What other gloes share the same part? As ive noticed alot of ebay listings would say something like boot led but have a picture of the footwell or something.
The boot bulbs are very long. Can't remember exactly the measurements.
Definitely recommend the R-Dash boot LED unit. No replacement bulb on its own, comes even close in terms of light output.
If you had a sunroof, I have swapped the rear licence plate (37mm festoons) to the inside of the cabin.
But I did have to bend the connectors in a bit to make them fit.
They are ones (pictured above) lighting the rear passenger seats.
