The RCD510 is a great upgrade and will also fully integrate with the Climate Control, Bluetooth and Park Sensors if these are all factory fitted.
6 CDs and SD Card functionality is also really useful with the beautiful touch colour screen and I'd recommend it to anybody with the base RCD310 ....
BUT ....
As Ozgti said .... the RNS510 is then yet again so much better ..... DVD/SatNav etc .... and for less than $1000 delivered these days an unbeatable proposition.
Personally, I'd say go the RNS510 directly .... and I did the same as you Tranporter, went RCD510 1st instead .... and then on to RNS510 later .... could have saved $450 ......
That said, when I sell the Tig it will be with the RCD510 fitted .... .... not the RNS and the 310 will be in a box in the boot ....
That said, the RCD510 is doing usefull duty in the Multivan at the moment .... in place of its stock RCD310 .... until its RNS510 arrives ....

Yes, I know, basically I made a choice RCD510 to Tiguan (wife drives locally only and to work, doesn't even have a bloutooth yet) and RNS510 for Touareg which came with the basic radio and 6disc stacker in the boot. It was over $5000 option when we were buying the Touareg.
You're right Sharkie, it works nice with climatronics system and the parking sensors, much better than RCD310 small b/w screen.
I'm particularly keen on hearing how that Spanish Bluetooth uou ordered is going to go .... what MY is your Tig ?
Will that 1 work with a MY09 with the Red Cluster ? If so, I'm going to get 1 as well ....
Our Multivan has the Premium Bluetooth factory fitted and it is great, well worth the money IMO.

The ebay description says white only! There are other BT for red display that I came across but I didn't take much notice of them since the Golf and Treg have BT. I let you know if I see something. Now I'm chasing RVC for RNS and RCD510 and I hope for RNS510 for MY05 T5 (I'm sick of on the dash screen with 2007 GPS maps).
Our Tig is MY10, but I ordered BT for MY11 Octavia RS TSI, which has the satnav standard but not BT .
Yeah, I heard that too on news. It would be hard to police it. You can use the BT for streaming music from your Ipod. They would have to ban the radios from the cars too. Or maybe that will be the next.

yeh, definitely satnav then. Although I reckon they're worse than phones. At least with radio/hands free phone etc you're still watching the road. I'll be the first to admit I've nearly hand an 'incident' while the satnav is on - and mine even calls out the street names for me!
sorry if i sound dumb but where is a good place to sorce the RNS510 ? and how easy is it to install, or do you think if we got one that vw would install it for us for a cost no dought..
The RNS510 is so easy to use. I had one in a hire car last year (first VDub I'd driven) very straight forward. it's much better than the I system I have on the BMW. that's a good system but takes a little getting used to - especially if your are male with no interest in reading the manual.

Look at the ebay, and they're easy to install, the instructions and more in there ->
My BlueTooth from Spain finally arrived. Nicely wrapped in the box and the label on the BT says Made in Germany. It was a premium kit that comes with p/s foam in which the BT box slides to.
While we are on Bluetooth, I have the normal Bluetooth in my my10, would I need to get the whole premium kit or just some of the components, does anyone know?
