What's the below worth? Not sure if I am getting a good deal or not.

    147 Black Auto
Blue tooth (presumably the simpler one?)
Big display screen but no Sat Nav (can I fix this to be Sat Nav later?)
    Rear View Camera
Usual comfort pack, fog lights, 17' Boston tyre etc
I'll get the tinting and mats thrown in
    MDI and ipod cable
rear parking sensors (beepers, not pak assist)
    NSW rego and black/white plates

Most importantly, it's available asap and I won't have to travel tooooo far to collect it.
    I have a 2007 MY 2008 Jetta 103 TDi DSG - bought it 2nd-hand in January 2011
My partner is awaiting the delivery of her brand new Tiguan 103 TDi DSG

From your list the only options are black paint, Blue Tooth, RVC and MDI. The rest are all standard features.

I'd expect RRP to be no more than $45K and then + onroads. So depends on what you are paying. Given its a 2010 plated car and discounts , I'd pay no more than $45K drive-away.

I agree with Sharkie, I got the 125 manual with a few of those extras and a few others in July (2010 model) for around $43k (this included on-road costs, delivery, rego etc).

Looks like I have paid a deposit on a rip off!
        50k, with 1k alread down (c/card).
I know he'll have to ship it across, and he did say that the 1k for that is factored in.
He's giving me only the mats and tinting, and the number plate for free... and the minimal extras are all factory installed.

What do I do now? So wish I found this forum 24 hours ago.

          Hi PMS

I've found myself in this situation in the past, and it'll come down to your dealer and how much they value both your custom and their reputation. They've told you that 'the vehicle is a good deal, and to make sure you get it you need to put a 'holding deposit' down of the typical $1k. This is commonly seen as an emotional buy/trap, because the greater majority of consumers will feel compelled to complete the transaction. In my case, the dealer refunded the deposit because I simply changed my mind. It'll come down to the fine print, and exactly what you've signed, but worst case...the dealer lets you shift the deposit to a different vehicle that you may have to wait for.

This is personal NOT professional advice, and it is based upon my own personal opinions, but stand you're ground, after all, you;re the customer, and keep this as a handy lesson that emotions often get us into strife. Good luck with the continuing negotiations.

I've checked the legalities and there's a cooling off period
I paid the deposit without a test drive...
Another dealer has now suggested that 50k is too high even with a Sat Nav, and is encouraging me to buy his alternate offering. So, 50 minus the cost of the Sat Nav should be more like 45, yeah? I honestly thought the guy I dealt with in Canberra was awesome, and had already been drumming up solid referrals for him. In fact, my other half will probably also be buying a Tiguan or similar in about a month or so, and we had intended on going through this guy. Hope he comes good as he really seemed decent.

I won't call it a rip off, since the dealer is throwing in some freebies on top of the retail price.

Deposits can be refunded depending on circumstances. In my case, delivery of the Tiguan 147TSI was delayed by almost a month longer than the Estimated Delivery Date. I contacted the Dealer Principal (upon Team_V's advise) and almost immediately, the Sales Manager offered a full refund of the deposit as an option. I took that option and bought something else instead.

                Hi PMS,

I'm sorry to throw my two cents in, but I kinda agree that the price of $50 is too high.

The things he is throwing in are not real big ticket items anyway, so dont be fooled by that. Mats, tint etc are not worth that much, and the premium NSW plates are supposed to be standard on new delivered VWs anyway. It is only fleet or second hand cars that tend to get the canary plates.

We are not trying to bag dealers either, or make them out to be crooks. We have a few dealers on this forum anyway who are very helpful.

But remember the old saying that goes something like this: "if the seller and buyer are happy, then it is a good deal". You seem to have struck a relationship with him, and if that translates to a succesful ongoing relationship throughout the life of your car and its servicing, then it may be ok.

If you are really concerned though, try kindly negotiating an arrangement that your first two services be thrown in (or similar) as you have now been offered a better deal elsewhere for the car purchase. If he really wants to keep you happy, then the services are the least he will do.

                    Nah mate... it was Belconnen.
I honestly believed him when he said it was a squeeze for 50k, and when challenged yesterday he suggested he could throw in a boot mat.
If anybody on here could find me a white or black Tiguan auto, ideally with Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Comfort pack, rear view camera and even park assist perhaps, I'd jump at any of the 3 available models. As it stands, I feel a bit anxious about accepting or rejecting his offer. The other dealer offered me a pepper grey 147 with sat nav for a much better price, but I really don't like the colour. I only have a rental car so need to buy asap...

Thanks to all for your time and efforts replying to me. This has becoming a very stressful experience and I am now more aware of what the fair price point would be.

                      Hi mate,
I wouldnt pull out from him. I would just try and maintain the raport by allowing him the chance to keep you happy...(see my above ideas)
If you now try and find another dealer and stock, it will prolong things and add to your stress. Remember, things like servicing can really add up, so get a written agreement for a few free services....

You guys are awesome... thanks again.
The service bit will be tough as it's in Canberra and I'm in Sydney.
The other factor is the fact that the Black 147 is in WA and I am paying for that freight all the way to Sydney.

I have 3 options now, after a VERY long day calling around.

                        1. Black 147 Auto, fog lights, RVC, MDI and bluetooth (all factory fitted) as well as floor and boot mats and tint = 50k
                        2. White 103 Auto, sun roof, leather seats, 18" tyres, Sat Nav, RVC, Park Assist, (all factory) Bluetooth, MDI (retro) 2011 car at port now to ensure it's an 11 11 = 54k
                        3. White 103 Auto, comfort pack, RVC & Bluetooth (retro) as well as tinting and car/boot mats = 49k

Which of the above represents the best value? #2 is available immediately and has no freight cost factored in...

#2 looks like an ok deal. You could probably get that down a bit lower.

We paid $54000 for the following (drive away).
                            103 TDI Tiguan (MY11)
                            DSG
                            Metallic Paint
                            Bi-Xenon headlights
                            Sunroof
Vienna Leather (this comes with electronic adjustable & heated seats)
                            Off-road package
                            Comfort Package
                            MDI
                            Bluetooth
                            Sat Nav
                            Rear View Camera
                            Park Assist
                            Carpet Floor mats

But, this was in QLD, where I know on-road costs are less than NSW. Also - with this order, we have to wait (up to) 6 months. Which is fine for us, because we're in no hurry.
