Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How does the clips fit? is it double sided tape? or do you need to clip it to the frame or rubber?
I hope it won't damage or leave marks on the car in the long run....?

The clips are held on with tape. Some of ours are coming off after less than a week - dealer obviously didn't clean the paintwork before sticking them on...

Thanks for the info! It's funny how a parts guy from one of the dealers told me today that they are screwed in. Apparently he had many customers who complained later on cos it was leaving a permanent gap... None of other dealers that I called after that couldn't confirm whether it is screwed or taped. LOL.

          - sent you a reply PM.

i have OEM shades, def not drilled in. no way.
clips are held by double sided tape. a cleaning kit is included to prime the area of contact. easily done in 20mins - both doors.

it darkens the rear windows even further on top of the existing tint - impossible to see from outside looking in. VW spare parts dept would know this as sun shades - original name.
          - might need to pre-order as its not a general stock item. sub 200.

          bottomline:
rear doors are clean looking from the outside, yet all sun glare protection once inside. SOLD.

Yep, apart from the mild annoyance with the tape not taking on a couple of clips, the side window shades are great and keep the kiddies' hands inside. next stop for us is window tinting. Dealer wanted to give us a discount on tinting in lieu of the shades, but I figured we could get good tinting much cheaper aftermarket.

sorry, dont have any pics of my own here... the fitting job itself is super easy. fitting instructions are simple but so is the task.

                  Tiguan: Baby Sun Shade Needed

                  Hi All,

My wife and I have our first baby due in 1 week (ahhh). We have 2011 Tiguan... Anyone recommend a good sun shade and where to buy?

                  Thanks in advance!

Did you see the genuine ones? There is a thread about them, you have to search for it, also look in sticky index.

Thanks for your quick response. I've just had a look in the sticks and also done a search but can't find it. Sorry to be a pain. Can you send me the link to the thread you're referring to?

                      Thanks again!

I am in the same boat, new Tiguan delivered yesterday, baby due in May. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on these:
                        Volkswagen Tiguan 5 Door 2008-
Pricey, but considering they cover all rear windows they might be good value. Has anyone had experience with these?

I have the genuine VW ones, almost look identical to the link above.

Cant recommend them more highly. They keep the clean look of the car, and don't look cheap and unfitted like the socks on the market.

should be able to pick up genuines from your dealer at about 150-160. They should look after you
