Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I think that there is a mistake in that article, I doubt that it has a flat six cylinder engine from WRX, it should be flat 4.

I was thinking the same thing as above.
      Should be a flat 4.

Not a bad package, but mine is still doing everything i want it to and cost me less so i am happy.

lol The look of the Foz is one of the things that would point me that way rather than to a Tig.

Maybe VW will reply with a Golf R powered Tiguan? Unlikely I know but we can hope

I used to have the model 2 shapes ago in the XT - the Tiguan is not in the same class for performance, but fit and finish it will win every time.

But the reality, most people buy on price and that is why Subaru are so popular.

I saw it at the show, and it looks cheap and ugly. Also sits so high It looks like it is on stilts!!
                  the wheels are aweful too...

I cant see how it would possibly be a threat to the the quality of the tigs either...The interior of the forresters is such a mish-mash of cheap plastics and bad fit and finish..

Well, thats my two cents worth anyway....

                  Who me, biased???

If you don't mind the horrible looks and cheap interior then I guess you could do worse...

I have to admit, I never cared too much how the car looks from the outside. Because, while I'm driving, I can see only the bonnet.

I still own 1999 Forester limited, just 2.0L auto (it was my wife's daily), that we bought as a demo with only 190km. I wish Subaru kept the interior they had then, I was also hoping that Subaru would bring the diesel engine with the auto box in the Forester, they didn't.
(So, yes Tiguan was the second choice.) If they would I would've buy Forester even with that ugly interior. But right now, we're all happy with Tiguan. Thanks Subaru!

And guys, you want it or not, The Forester with 196kW will be serious contender and that's 196kW before you mod.

I used that same argument for my Z3 M-Coupe ....

Exactly ...... lots of potential there and the mechanics are almost bullet-proof unlike some of the VW components ....

I beg to differ Johan, Subie gearboxes are well known for dropping their guts on a regular basis, even in stock form.

                            Agreed on the gearboxes.
Have seen many a thread on forums about getting dogbox's and upgrades.

The rest of the car however is decent mechanical wise, just not the aesthetics.

Agreed on the notorious glass gearboxes of the WRXs ..... just maybe the Forrester's is a bit stronger .... the rest of the mechanics is as good as it gets though .... VW's 4Motion is not a proper AWD and the gearboxes, clutches, some electronics and even some engine components aren't as strong ....

You get a premium feel and drive, but not premium or bulletproof quality or resale values I'm afraid .... and I'm a VW fan so imagine what the non VW-fans are saying ....
