  • Should we develop a K04 kit for the Tiguan TSI engine?

Carry over from the quarter mile thread:

    Preface:

Investigation for a K04 kit for the TSI Tiguan:

Price point? under 6k AUD for hardware & software including GST. Many different things have to fall into place before this, but this is the expected ceiling.

    Output: ~ 240kw

    Requirements:

    3" downpipe

    Optional parts

    Intake, Intercooler

    Technical:

Could be a complete stealth installation, will run with stock airbox, stock exhaust, stock intercooler if required. Stock clutch will handle 240kw depending on how it is driven (same output as an ED30 GTI & same clutch - although AWD will stress the clutch more if launching).

Installation time will be around 10 hours (est), time would be saved if combined mods happen at the same time.

    Thoughts?

If it comes in around the 5k price point i would be interested.

How much would the clutch upgrade cost?
I assume it would be a DXD clutch which would bump the total price up a bit?

Guy, YES I am, BUT it would be on my next Tig, so my vote probably doesn't count.

I'll be looking at changing again probably around this time next year and have every intention to repurchase another Tig. I was going for the Audi Q3 (I can't sit for long enough in the beemer Sharkie!), but think I would rather use the Tig as the base. So a 5-6k performance upgrade would see my new Tig parked outside your place straight from picking it up from the dealer Guy.

Interestingly enough, VW released a press statement saying the new Tiguan facelift/model is due out in 2011

Clutch / flywheel combo is ~ $2600 for a DXD option. Sach's racing is around $3600.

We have just field tested 5 DXD clutch combinations & are very happy with the feel

I liked the idea of a K04 kit because i don't want to push the car all the way with a stage 3 kit. I've averaged 1,500km/wk so fat in the Tig so longevity of the car is more important than boosting the hell out of it lol.

With regards to running the K04 kit with stock items, does this bring it up to the same power as the Golf GTI Pirelli edition stage 1? 229kw?

Not sure on exact output, but would expect to see from 220 - 250kw (crank) lower end with stock exhaust / intake / intercooler - upper end with APR exhaust / intake / intercooler

I'm definitely interested Guy if it's possible to do the kit INCLUDING the upgraded clutch for around 6k. Probably a tall order I know

If the road is wet, or even moderately slippery/greasy, a stg 1 Tig will do it .... done it more than once now ....

Its awesome watching the R8/GTS(any V8/XR6T actually) fishtail in the rearview mirror with no real forward motion whilst the Tig dissapears in the distance ......

Pity, about the X3 clip, how long did you sit in it?

And ... if the DSG Tigs, come with launch control, get 1 of those instead of the manual next time around ....

And as Guy knows, I'm interested in investigating the K04 kit .... since this is not an Audi, Guy, price point should be at least $1500 lower than the A4 kit .....

Not the x3 Sharkie, the 135 I mentioned might be worth a look. But it was hopeless for me.

Interesting that the dsg Tig does have launch. That should be fun with 250kw! I know what to option and what not to option with the Tigs now too
