  • So what do you all think of the incoming new MINI SUV.....????

This will probably get a variety of reactions, but what does everyone think of the MINI crossover which is due to arrive here early next year? Aparantly there will be both a 2WD and a 4WD version.

WHEELS had a brief write up about it, and mentioned that it will go up against cars like our Tiguans etc.

Would love to hear your thoughts...

Mini is owned by BMW now so it will be priced similarly to the X1 but will also be as dull and feel cheap like the X1.

I don't think VW have anything to worry about and i am glad i have the tiguan instead of a bulbous lump with a mini badge on to score another 15-20k profit.

It'll be like the dreadful looking Clubman, no one will buy them.

What about the new Mitsubishi (no guesses where their styling influences are from):

Or we may get lucky and be able to buy one of these even:

Then again what about the Peugeot?

Pity the're all the same basic vehicle.

At least the Tiguan is a VW - that's good enough for me.

            Here's the review of it:
Similarly priced to the UK Tiguan but doesn't have the clearance of the Tig.
Plus you have less power on tap.
Also the interior (mainly the centre) looks like an alien spaceship, especially the speedo which wouldn't be safe here imho.

The Mini will be coming in at around $50K .... it will handle (on the road) better than the Tiguan and be quicker than stock TSIs. It will have less space and be pretty useless (even more than a Tig) offroad. Wouldn't buy 1 but there are people who would .....

The RVR is going to be the biggest threat to the Tiguan. It may likely come with the 2.0T EVO engine and will handle and go as well (if not better) than a Tiguan. Previous generations of the RVR's (mostly Japan only) were real flyers. Quality is where it will be let down. Wouldn't buy 1 but again there are people who would .....

Personally I think the upcoming Q3 will be the defining small SUV.

                Agree.
I couldn't wait another 2 years for a car though so i settled for the best at the time and couldn't be happier.

Being a recent 05 Mini Cooper S owner I think the Clubman looks terrible and this next monstrosity won't do well at all. It's so ugly! They got it right in 02 up to the Clubman but I would never even consider one. Go buy an old big ass Migane if you want an ugly car... Yuk. Just my opinion of course.

I'm thinking of getting the Renault Koleos for the wife (we're expecting first baby).

Did anyone compare the Tig with the Koleos?

I own a 147 (fully loaded) and it seems for the equiv (the Privilege model) it's almost $10K cheaper?

The koleos is apparently a better vehicle for off-roading due to the approach angle and it did win the off-road challenges over the Tiguan last year.

Having said that, the exterior design looks very messy and i don't even know where the closest renault dealer is to me so i just counted it out right away.

I looked at the Koleos...briefly...The dash is a dogs breakfast, and feels a lot cheaper than anything from VW.

The outside design is ugly too!

But that is just my opinion...each to his own. After all I dont mind the MINI Countryman...

A couple of issues there .... #1 its French and they are notorious for making the worst cars out there from a reliability point of view.

#2 depreciation on the Renault would be huge compared to a Tig.

#3 no other small SUV currently on sale will drive as nice a Tig.

A big negative point for a Tig is the bootspace. A decent sized pram will not fit into a Tigs boot. Tried and tested this weekend in my own.

For a the most reliable alternative small SUV with a suitable boot go the current RAV4. Enough space for mothers and babies.

Going with a Renault is just asking for trouble.

If it is space and practicality one is after, then the Outlander is the choice. Not really a drivers car, and has a terrible dash and gearbox, but lots of space for a family. The rear tailgate thing is great too.

Arrgh, now that I have actually recommended something from mitsubishi, I need to wash my mouth out with soap.

Yes, go wash that mouth ..... I also like the Outlanders ... offer 7 seats ... however rear seat space & boot space, reliability and resale kills it compared to the RAV4 ... why do I feel I need to wash my mouth as well ....

                              Resale after 3 years .... TSI Tigs 65%, TDI Tigs 61%, RAV4 65% ....
