  • Crashed tiggy and no parts in Australia

i havent been on the site for a while, have been busy and am now overseas,

Two days before leaving we struck a Kangaroo on the left hand front side, car was still drivable.

Car was left in the care of my son to get a quote etc and get the repair ball rolling.

VW had to inspect the car , as they have no parts in australia!!!! and will have to import.

lower bumper was cracked, the interior of the headlights destroyed, the left front guard creased, and the left passengers door was sprung.

the kangaroo changed direction on the road, after passing us, so i was deacclerating, so the speed wasnt that high mid 50-60s id say.

I havent had a chance to look at the forum, but has anyone else suffered damage to their dar, and had an extended repair time?

    regards

    Phil.

Hey mate, sorry to hear about the issues.
I know Arctra had an issue with them not having any driver windows in the country when his was broken into.

Sorry I can't offer any more knowledge for you.
Hopefully it all gets fixed and back to normal.

VW Australia don't seem to be very good at carying spares in general. Needed 2 new suspension bearings in December for my Polo, there was only 1 in the country...

It couldn't be me. I think it was Arctra.

Whoops, too many guys with similar sounding screen names (pullstarter, transporter, actra etc)

          It was Arctra.

Yeah, it was me that had a problem when my drivers side window was smashed in. They had to special order the window from Germany coz now even the Singapore hub had spares.

I ended up calling VW and asked the guy whether he expected me to just sit and wait for them to get a spare for me - is their philosophy simply to sell the customer the vehicle then say "stuff em" when it comes to support.?

For what it's worth, the dealers get frustrated at the lack of spares too. They told me to complain directly to VW and make sure they knew customers were angry that they weren't holding spares.

My advice - Kick up a HUGE stink!

              they have got the bits

Well, I have to eat humble pie, ive been advised that all but too small bracket are being delivered to the Repairer for the Tiggy.

so thats a relief, the insurer and the repairer both had commented that VW were slow on parts.

Well i am a little relieved, as in the past ive had to wait for parts for other things coming from O/S and they seem to take for ever.
Id imagine a large global company l ike VW should have its supply lines sorted , particuarly for a new and continuing model.

As a side line, im in the US at the moment, and I havent seen many tiggys, lots of Tourags, but then everything is big over here.

What is a little dissapointing is that the lack of some (lots) of different models and options in the Australian market is said to be because we are such a small market that it's cost effective to try and keep spares for all those cars. Hence we get a limited range... the sad part is that it seems even they don't have spares

Since all the cars come out of the same factory ther eis no reason we should have those parts and I'm more than sure plenty of people would still buy them even if they had to sign and acknowledge that they were getting "non australian stock" options meaning if they break it they know they will have to wait for a replacement part to come from overseas.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

It is disappointing, I can't believe that it is car company in 2010. If someone in 1980 would tell me that this could happen in 2010 I wouldn't believe him.
Does VW Australia know that we have airplanes these days and the parts could be posted almost overnight?

                    An update,
Well after 7 going on 8 weeks, Tiggy is still in the panel shop, The " out of australia , parts arrived on friday, the available in australia parts on the same invoice did not arrive,
Tiggy has been fully resprayed awaiting puting back together, the parts that arrived from overseas, cant be fitted as the available in australia part did not come in the order.
The panel shop gave VW a blast, VW had sent a rep out originally to see what parts were required.

I have loved the tiggy, but VW arent winning any brownie points

by the Way, did you folks buying a new VW, get a "welcome to VW pack" im still awaiting mine after 12mths and do you get the VW magazine?

My BMW bike has not in stock parts flown from germany in three days? so there must be planes coming from germany!!

Be nice to get the tiggy back

Very poor effort, it can't be that difficult. Although I took my Passat back 4 times to a VW dealer because they got the wrong parts in 3 times in a row! I am still waiting for my VW umbrella which was supposed to come with the Passat but I do get the VW magazine, in fact for a while I got 2 of them each month.

                        You must be getting mine!

I'm on my second new VW in succesion which is now approaching 12 months old and have only received the magazine once, that was the edition that featured the MKVI, apart from that, I've never seen one!

Come to think of it, I still don't have my roadside assist card, nor have I received a post purchase survey.

I think VWA are very slack in this regard, arrogant attitude towards customers pre and post purchase and lack of spare parts is an extension of this.

                          Up date

                          Gday folks.
tiggy has returned in resplendent full respray ( due to the seamless body).

The delay in parts wasnt obscure components but mainly electrical connectors that the tiggy and im sure other VWs have an abundance off.

Panel shop indicated are regularly having trouble with VW parts, and especiallly being sent parts that arent up to their standard, , they showed me a "Brand New" undersill for a passat which had numerous deep scratches and marks in it, this is not unusual.

So the tiggy was off the road for 8 weeks.

Was interesting lookng at the parts that had to be replaced, the whole radiator and support assembly. as the mounts for the headlight punched out of the support , taking the radiator brackets with it and the whole support frame.

Im sure all this is required for crumble zones etc. But a large amount of components were destroyed in a moderate impact which from the outside didnt appears as much till the bonnet was opened.

Nice to be in the tiggy again
