Where the heck does the price difference come from between minor and major with no DSG service?
DSG gearbox is not sealed for life and DSG oil should be changed at 60,000km. I've done mine early at 45,000km just to play it safe.

There are service kits available from a number of places including ECS (forum sponsor): Volkswagen Tiguan 1 4 Motion 2.0T Drivetrain DSG Transmission - 02e398000 - DSG Transmission Service Kit - ES#11968

Or if you also want the tools to do the job: Volkswagen Tiguan 1 4 Motion 2.0T Drivetrain DSG Transmission - 02E398001 - DSG Transmission Service Kit - With Tool - ES#259834

    OEM DSG Oil - recommended replacement every 40,000miles/60,000km: Volkswagen Tiguan 1 4 Motion 2.0T Drivetrain DSG Transmission - G052182A2 - DSG Transmission Oil - 1 Liter - ES#5244

I can't beleive the service department have charged you $1,200 and not changed the DSG oil.

The gearbox oil in any DSG unit can be drained and refilled. It is not "sealed" in the literal sense.

The DQ200 7-speed (dry clutch) has no service interval (i.e. "filled for life").

The DQ250 6-speed (wet clutch) has a service interval of 60 000 km.

The DQ500 7-speed (wet clutch) has a service interval of 60 000 km.

Yeah I know I thought 1200 was steep..... My Tiguan is MY12 which I think is the DQ200....should I still get the oil changed in the dry clutch one...

Also what is the most expensive part of a major service (excluding DSG service)....

        Thanks for all your replies..

I thought the Tiguan ran the DQ500 across the range?

Is it - as far as im aware. If olski1 can confirm which model Tiguan he has then it would help.

Confusing then.... Guy I dropped the car of with at the dealer told me sealed, which in my mind means it must be the DQ200, but then they are quoting me (different guy at front desk) prices as if DSG service is included....

              I thought it was DQ500 originally....I have MY12 103 TDI DSG

Actually pretty sure it is the DQ500 now I think about it...... So I should be expecting a DSG oil change.... Think maybe they guy who took my car of me didn't know what he was talking about.... Not a good sign really...

A VW service manager could not tell me whether the loan car he was showing me was a jetta or passatt while he was looking at it!

They don't need to know anything about any car.

Their job is to ensure the department is maximising profit.

Some won't even speak to customers.

Was the DQ500 after all and had the full DSG service..... All for $960 which was a pleasant surprise.... Scary thing was, that the guy telling me it was sealed was meant to be a mechanic....

                          Hiya hippy

I'm sure there are a few recommended independent garages in Sydney, but i used European Car Centre which is in Maryville/Wickham, close to inner Newcastle.

so i've got a quote to do a 120k service on the tig... they've quoted for timing belt and replacing water pump.

does the diesel tig have a timing belt?

It must - because they change the water pump each time the timing belt is changed.

                                Hi,

I thought Tiguan had timing chain - chain is supposed to be maintenance free (excluding the tensioner that could fail ).

Water pump would be something to replace.
