Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 7 speed DSG option in the UK

I came across this link from another forum:
VW Tiguan Match revealed - Car and Car-Buying News - What Car?

According to this website, the Brits are getting a DSG option for the Tiguan. I wonder if we will get it here. For me, this would make the Tig perfect.

    Goes anywhere you can imagine.

Yes, DSG is now also available in Germany. I'd say it will be available here too very soon.

Derek will probably jump in and give a more in depth reason but I see no point to this as it limits functionality and gives one more expensive part that breaks on the Tig.
Does the Tig really need to change gears that 0.3 seconds faster than it does now?

How often do we see mechatronic units requiring replacement and other issues with the DSG in the mk5/6/passat forums?

Agreed 100% (what a surprise !!). Basically it completely negates the Tigs off-road and towing capabilities which are the main reasons for purchasing a Tig in the first place for many (particularly diesel buyers). I just hope that the DSG is going to be an "option" and that the "track and field" version can keep the tiptronic and perhaps even get some gains in clearance height etc. I for one will never buy a DSG Tiguan unless they can overcome the off-road and towing issues, it's that simple for me. I do realise that a number of on-road only people will be happy with the DSG but imo off-road and towing is what the Tig (particularly the diesel Tig) are all about.

        Cheers

It will be interesting to see what happens here as we don't get the various "versions" that the rest of the world market gets.
If they do introduce it, it's most likely to be in the 147 and an option in the 125/103.

At least you get the off-road pack and the diesel and engine choices in the petrol, NA get none of that !! I notice that the new Touareg has an 8 speed tiptronic !! it's avoided the DSG for all the reasons talked about before. Just hope that the Tig may follow suit in at least some models. If not I guess I'll be changing companies or trying to save enough pennies to buy a new Touareg V6 diesel !!!!!!!! MMMMMmmmmmmmm or maybe even a V8 !!!!!!

DSG , DCT (dual clutch transmission) or CVT (constantly variable transmission) are slowly replacing Automatic transmissions in cars made these days as the car manufacturers are trying to produce cars with better fuel consumption and less CO2/km emissions. DSG are even available for hybrid cars like VW New Compact Coupe with 1.4TSI and 7sp DSG (concept car for now).

I agree with you Derek, IMO for Tiguan Auto is better than DSG, even if you sacrifice a bit of fuel economy on average DSG is 10%-15% better fuel consumption also better 0-100km times (something Sharkie will appreciate).

I'm glad I ordered my Tiguan this year, since for reliability and cheaper maintenance The Aisin automatic transmission in Tig and Touareg is hard to beat.

                  Okay okay, i was wrong!
However we are yet to see a press release stating anything for Australia so it will be interesting to see how they go about integrating it into the lineup here.

Does the DSG update coincide with the availability of the 125 TDI engine?

It would be interesting to see the lineup for Oz given that there's an additional facelift on the horizon for 2011.

I was right about the MY year changes rather than the end of year changes.
But I do concede you were correct in the early introduction of the DSG.

Will be interesting to see how the reviewers find the DSG box as they generally take them softroading with competitor cars to match them.
Might also be included now to compete against the X1 and Q3 that are out/due out this year.

I just get a horrible feeling manuals will become scarcer as time passes. Already not available in many models sadly. Makes me damn angry actually when it's not even offered as an option.

Sorry, so have I misunderstood? Is there no longer ANY manual option available with the new lineup?

I was prob going to update to another 125tsi manual in the new range (as my kms will be fairly high by then) and option it up with all the bells and whistles...
