Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Waiting for spare part

Just wondering, if any of you have to wait for your VW part to arrive from an country , ie non available in Australia. How long did you have to wait for?

My Tig was off the road last friday, because there is faulty BRAKE MODULE. There isn't any in the country.
VW have to sort it from either Singapore or Germany (according to the service manager where my car is now).

    Thanks for you feedback

Thats because clip keep on breaking his brake components ..... .... no spares left after his car's been fixed .... not sure what he does to it ....

Seriously though, expect 4 days to 2 weeks depending on where it needs to come from. Typically parts don't get sent express .....

The wait is usually overnight-3 working days if it's from the Sydney or Melbourne warehouses.

Around 7 working days from the Singapore warehouse.

Around 14 working days from the Germany warehouse.

        If it's a wiring harness, it's a 6-week wait while it's made.

Bare in mind, that all this depends on whether the Singapore and German warehouses have the parts in stock (Could be caught in mid-production). For overnight stuff, parts need to be ordered by your dealer before 2pm. Depending on what the part is, occasionally, it can be ordered as late as 4pm.

First one was 1 week Fri to Fri. Second one was 4 weeks as there weren't any left in the country - can't think why!

Don't know where it had to come from though, sorry.

I've had a number of issues with VW spares. Often there are 1 or 2 of something in the whole country...

I know they don't want to stock a huge inventory, but seriously...

Since the Skoda is part of VW many componennts for Tiguan are made in Czech republic and all over the Europe.

Here is an intersting article showing the size of the automotive industry in the country that is a bit bigger than Tasmania. http://www.factbook.net/countryrepor...oParts_mkt.htm

When my drivers side window was smashed they told me there weren't any spares in Aus or Singapore and that they'd have to ship from Germany. They ordered it express and it took about a week.

I kicked up a massive stink about it, calling VW Australia directly about it. I had a real go at them for expecting me to just wait with an unsecure vehicle for that long. They ended up taking a window off a Tig already in stock for me.

I bought a premium brand vehicle, paying the premium price, expecting that I would also have premium after sales support. It is totally unacceptible for VW to expect owners to be OK with waiting a week plus for spares if they have problems. As VW owners I believe it is our responsibility to call VW Aus to task when this happens and make as big a fuss of it as possible so that they come to realise it is better to stock sufficient spares than try and quell angry owners that are being inconvenienced. Threaten the brand and they'll act to defend it.

We rang VW Roadside assist and told them about the car... they rang back two hours later and told us to go to BUDGET RENTAL to pick up a courtesy car.

A rental car is a MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER (Brand new).... Driving the rental car make me realise I really missed my TIG. It really make me appreciate what Tiguan and other car don't have....

It's not the same as before... I just dont enjoy driving anymore until I get my Tig back

Finally, got the car back. After 11 days in the workshop and half a dozen of calls to VW Assist

if you have to wait for shipping then up to 3 months is possible.. but if it's in flight then you can wait about 5 to 10 days
