Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Need your help guys. Could one of you with a TSI (probably a manual would be best), go out and start up your Tig (don't get in, but make sure the radio is off) and then kneel down outside the car and stick your head into the foot well under the steering wheel near the pedals, and have a listen. You should hear a hissing noise. Keep your head down there, and then push the brake pedal down with your hand (don't have to go very far down) and listen again. It should be gone. When you lift your hand off the pedal it should come back again etc etc.

If you're not getting this noise, them looks like I'm up for the 3rd brake booster!

    Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Just tried mine John and no hissing noise, tried with and without handbrake on. When they fixed it last time were they absolutely sure the booster was the problem? It seems EXTREMELY unlikely that the same component would go twice in the space of what 8 months or so?

Well, the vacuum brake booster works the same way in all cars and you shouldn't hear the hissing sound inside.

It looks like you're for another brake booster again.
Is the braking performance affected yet?

No, brakes seem fine Transporter, as they were last time. It's not as loud as last time, but it may just be early days!

I only heard it today because I didn't have the radio on. I couldn't believe it when I pulled up at the lights, took my foot off the brake while waiting, and bugger me as soon as I lifted my foot off, there was the hissing sound again. You only have to just touch the pedal to stop it, but as soon as you let it off -hsssssssssssssssssssssss.

Damn it! How could I possibly get two faulty booster units? - unless they bodgied up my orginal one and didn't actually swap it out! I know they had it out, because they left off the engine breather that sits in front of the brake booster (I only noticed it because the car threw up a warning on the way home from picking it up (which reminds me, I never did let them know about that stuff up either).

I'll be having some 'interesting' conversations on Monday!

Thanks for checking yours Simon, much appreciated.

Hi Guys. Sorry you have been having these issues. I havent really ever listened for this, but will keep an ear out now. Thanks for the tip. Hope it all gets sorted soon. How many kms have you done? When did the first issue arise?

                      Brake Booster?

Am at Gold Coast on holidays and about to drive back home.
Yesterday arvo, out for a last bit of shopping and suddenly the brakes are HARD...then soft (normal) .
Straight to mechanicwith VagCom...no faults detected. Rang local service...can you leave it with us tomorrow, we're really busy and all or technicians have gone for the day...
Lastly, I rang VW Assist...they were great!
Car's being picked up this morning, taken to dealerand, if unable to be fixed today, they'll provide rental vehicle, accommodation and taxi fares if required.
Tig will be fixed locally and transported back home.

Still, I'd rather be driving the Tig!

So I guess I won't be seeing you later today then Tigga? That's a real bummer though. I'd be pretty upset I think.
